Upholstering
After being frustrated in trying to find three other Angie's Listed upholstery shops and being insulted by the one that I was able to find, I found Belle Epoque, which was next on my list. It is located on 1st Avenue near River Road, is well marked and identifiable, and has easy parking.
I entered and found Carlos Turco, the owner and a most delightful and friendly man. I showed him pictures of my chairs, and he estimated the cost of labor at $80 per chair, which I found most reasonable in view of the fact that the other place I visited quoted me $300 per chair for labor, not including materials.
Carlos asked me if I would like to see some samples of materials, and he showed me a wide variety of samples of leather and other materials, and we discussed the pros and cons of a number of them. I chose a nice leather at $37.50 per yard.
It was a couple of weeks before I could get my chairs over to him, but when I did, he only asked for the cost of the leather up front and said the chairs would be finished in a week or 10 days. Not having a pickup to carry them in, and having had to rely on a friend to take them over, I asked Carlos if there was a possibility that he could deliver them to me when they were done. "Of course," he replied.
On the 8th day following Carlos called to advise me that they were completed and that he could deliver them the next morning, which he did, without charge.
When I saw them I was delighted. The workmanship was perfect and they look like new.
I cannot say enough about the service, friendliness, and quality of the work done by Carlos and Belle Epoque. This is the place to go for quality service.

We brought two Louis XIV chairs to Belle Époque for refinishing and upholstery. The chairs are antique and were in terrible condition. When we got them back, they were unrecognizable! Carlos took them apart, basically reconstructing them, stripped and refinished the wood, and installed the fabric we had selected, all for a couple hundred bucks. Carlos is a true craftsman who obviously takes great pride in his work, and I would strongly recommend anyone to take their furniture to Belle Époque.
