Shame on me for allowing the dealer to pile on the extras, but sales people have all kinds of tricks for distracting you from the bottom line. No question, I should have reviewed each line and found out what all my options were. It started with a really bush league $150 charge for nitrogen top offs. 200 yards down the strip, at the Honda dealer (also owned by Chapman), my wife gets nitrogen for free.
The office manager told me that tinting the windows would cost $600, but the charge ended up being $900, because, she said, of the option I chose. She did not tell me that there were different options for different prices. She also failed to tell me that the paint and interior protection warranty has a choice between 3 and 5 years, and just signed me up for the 5 year option.
They tell you that the extended warranty is fully refundable if you don't use it. What they don't tell you is that it doesn't just apply to the extended period. Even if a warranty repair occurs during the manufacturer's original warranty period, you're out the money. And, they don't even have to tell you that they've changed out a $10 part. You'll find out when you don't get the refund.
The last bit of unprofessional behavior was promising my 11 year old daughter that they would loan us a convertible while our car was getting the windows tinted and the paint and interior treated. They didn't have one available when the work was done (which they scheduled). Now this is really not that big of a deal, but you don't make promises that you can't keep, especially to kids. The office manager could have said that she'd try, but instead she promised.
