"I want to start off by saying [Member Name Removed] was right, we did have some issues along the way. To start from the beginning, I went out last September to give them a quote for a new heater. The meeting went well without any issues. She then called about 2 weeks before guests from out of town were going to be visiting and wanted us to put a rush on the install in order to get the heater going before the upcoming Holidays. We moved jobs around and started the permit process to get the gas line put in and then later put the heater in. We go it in and completed when she requested. We sent an invoice which was ignored repeatedly until we finally told her we would have to add a finance charge to the invoice. Looking back I found that it took 2 months for her to pay a $2200 outstanding balance. As I stood there in her kitchen to collect the final payment she told me the main reason she would not give me authorization to run her credit card is because she thought I would never go back like every other contractor. But before that she told me that she did not have access to any checks or credit cards because her husband was the only one who could pay the bills. During the instruct process we let her know it would be a very good idea to keep the pump on for about 15 minutes after the heater has been turned off. We wanted to make sure that over the years she did not damage the heater. The problem was the pump was on a timer to run 8 - 10 hours a day but she wanted to run the heater all day and night long. We simply told her to take the trippers of the Intermatic timer so it would run all day. I thought it was understood. To be honest I never thought to tell her that. I apologized and explained to her the situation. I then told her I could put in what is called a fireman switch to make sure the heater turns off before the pump. She was at that point extremely annoyed and kept asking me why I did not tell her the pump and the heater would not communicate with each other. I very calmly and professionally told her the only way to do that is through automation or a fireman switch. I left with her upset but knowing how the system works and at that point all was good. Two weeks after I finally collected the final balance for the heater and multiple stops later her pump started to go out. She had guests coming into town again and wanted to see if I could get over there right away. Against my better judgement and past experience with her I stopped over the day she called. We got her an estimate right way for 2 different options. One was to simply replace the motor and the other was to replace the pump with a Variable speed pump. I explained the options and how she could save money on her electric with the new Variable Speed pumps. It took a few days but she got back to me via email. She emailed us with approval and copied her husband with the approval. We got the new pump in within a day or two of approval and unfortunately we forgot to get a deposit. After going over how the pump works a few days later we got an email saying they never authorized putting in a whole new pump. I spoke with her Husband [Member Name Removed] on the phone about all this. I double checked because I was almost 100% certian she approved. I researched our email responses and found the email approving the work. I forwarded it to them that they did indeed approve the new pump. We did not get a reply and nothing was mentioned about the approval after that. I found the email reply approving the job and forwarded it to her. I finally met with her husband and cleared everything up, including payment. At the end of the day [Member Name Removed] was happy, we shook hands, and he apologized for the way she was acting. I appreciate the business but I wish it would have ended differently."
