I must begin by saying that we were trying to sell our house, before the bottom fell out of the market, so we moved into a rented apartment, emptying the house thinking it would sell faster that way. We had this company "All My Sons" move us to the apartment in June of 2010, with a successful move costing about $500. The housing market got even worse, and no one looked at our house for over a year. We decided to move back to the house, and hired "All My Sons" again.
1. Scheduling the move was fine, and they quoted a price on our 3 bedroom apartment of approximately the same $500.00. But, we had purged many books (two retired professors) and other items, so we had even less to move back.
2. Moving day arrived and was to begin at 8 a.m. All My Sons didn't arrive.
3. We were called was told that they were going to arrive at our home in Chandler, AZ. Our apartment was in Northeast Tucson. After we cleared up that mistake, we were told that there would be a delay and they would arrive mid-afternoon.
4. At six that evening they still weren't there. We called again. There was another delay.
5. They arrived at 10 that night--a motley crew of young guys, two of whom looked like college or high school students.
6. We began to get concerned when the lead guy had a terrible time turning the truck around in the parking lot to get the ramp on the sidewalk.
7. The lead guy kept telling the other two how they were going to load the truck, but the other two randomly carried boxes and furniture onto the truck, not listening to his directions.
8. In the wee hours of the morning, the lead guy came to us and said the truck was full and they had been moving all day, and were going to park the truck and come back in the morning. There was still a lot of things in the apartment that needed to be on the truck, but they wouldn't fit. Remember, we had less than they moved with the same size truck a year ago.
9. I went to the house across town to receive the furniture. When they postponed the move, I had to drive back across town to sleep in a bed that was still there.
9. The next morning, I called the office of the company and got an answer from a representative from ALL MY SONS. Needless to say I was frustrated, angry, and expecting an explanation of what they were going to do for us. The person was confrontational, rude, defensive, and complaining about his allergies. He acted as they did nothing wrong, but told me that they would unload the truck at our house and go back to pick up the remainder of the furniture. He also promised a discount.
10. In mid-afternoon, the partially loaded truck arrived at our home. A new crew was there, and they were amazed at how poorly the truck was packed. Things were broken, and everything was in a state of confusion. They unloaded the truck and went back across town to get the remainder of our things from the apartment.
11. That evening the remainder of our things arrived. We were billed $900+ with a discount of $100. A trip from Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway to Starr Pass takes over an hour in a truck, so our discount merely covered the trip across town that was the company's fault.
I need to mention that the first moving crew told us that the manager of the company fired one of the key drivers that day, and it totally screwed up their schedule. Why, oh why, didn't they just postpone the move to another day instead of putting us through the torture and stress that occurred. A company with all these flaws and poor management should not be allowed to move people's possessions. We could have taken them to small claims court or to the better business bureau, but we were just to exhausted and disappointed.
Final chapter of this saga. We finally sold the house when the market improved, and moved to a rental patio home in the same area as the apartment. We hired Elegant Movers and the move happened in 4 1/2 hours for a cost of $517.28 only because we paid with a debit card. Less if you pay cash. Nothing was broken and we have reinstated our faith in movers. Hire Elegant Movers...NOT ALL MY SONS
This "Professional Moving Co" showed up in a truck about the size of a U-Haul with 2 guys. Right away the driver said he could not fit it all on one truck, so he called his boss who charged my another $500. for another truck & driver(not a moving laboror, strictly, a driver). Now that puts us at $2700., but the bill is for $3500.
My wife had the driver get his boss(James) on the phone & he stated he should have charged us $4200. he said they charge by the pound, but they never went through any scales along the way, he stated we should know how much our possessions weigh but being a really nice guy, he would only hold us up for an additional $500. bringing the total to $3200.
We paid, because it was 2:30am & we were tired & decided the poor guys working for this guy for $8.50 hour needed rest too.
We contacted the BBB, filed a complaint, his answer was "too bad, I'm not giving anything back & he didn't care if there was a complaint with them or not.
