George M.
Dec 2013
I called around 11 AM and talked to George, the owner.  We agreed on a price and he explained the costs of extra services should they be required. Since we were available that day George said he would send Steve, his foreman, that afternoon.  Steve arrived within 2 hours, having completed his previous job.  He explained what he was going to do and looked around the house, taking care to remove his shoes when stepping on the carpet.  (I thought this was very thoughtful and my wife really appreciated it.) He and I also went around the house to make sure he could access each register without bumping into art or other furnishings, so my wife and I moved anything that would be in his way, like art and other decorative pieces.  I'm glad we did that because it helped the job go faster and we didn't worry about damage.  Steve was very careful anyway but it was a good idea.
He brought up his huge vacuum, then went on top of the roof to clean the cold air return duct by using compressed air and rubber "fingers" to remove anything stuck to the sides. This took some time because the return ducts had never been cleaned. Also, my A/C man had removed my old swamp cooler and there was a lot of debris from it. (If you have dual cooling and don't use your swamp cooler, consider having it removed and the riser sealed up. It should save you some $$$$). After cleaning the return, Steve removed all of the registers and vacuumed out any debris that was near the end of the duct. He then installed his vacuum at one of the registers and plugged up all of the others. He then cleaned the old cooler duct,
. and methodically went to each register, cleaned the duct behind it with compressed air and the fingers, then resealed it and moved to the next. I took the opportunity to wash all of my registers while they were off of the wall and was glad I did.
Because of the debris in the ducts from the cooler removal, we paid an extra $50 for labor because Steve had to do extra work to remove the seal plate clean it with the air and fingers etc. We also paid an extra $50 to have the duct system sprayed with sporocide. I think it was worth it as the air coming in seems so much cleaner and almost "smoother" than before. I attribute the latter to the removal of all the fine debris from the system. I can tell the difference and I am a skeptic.
Our home is 1500 sf and only 1 system. Be prepared to spend more if you have a larger home on a split system
All in all, I would highly recommend this company and Steve in particular. He works very hard, is polite and cleans up behind himself very well. We chose to do the register cleaning ourselves as normally Steve only has time to hose them off. This probably works great if you have your ducts cleaned regularly, but if not and you can physically do it, I found immersing the register in soapy water and using a toothbrush worked best.
After calling a few of the $49 duct job companies and reading how much the technicians upsold the customer whether they needed it or not, I was really happy to work with somebody who quoted a fair price and then did what they said they were going to do, and recommended add-on services that had real value to me at very reasonable prices.

CAUTION: A&A was bought out by a different company, Prasses & Associates LLC d/b/a Professional Steam Cleaners. A&A had cleaned my air ducts very well in the past, but this new company is really horrible. They told me we needed filters we didn't need (because of air cleaning system in our units themselves) and tried to sell me expensive "hepa" filters. They also cleaned my kitchen floor tile and stripped off the finish from some of the tiles!!! After nearly a month of promises that they guarantee their work, they still have not returned even to look at the damage. LIARS AND CHEATERS!!! STAY AWAY!!!

The guys were competent and we are happy with the work they did. They came out Sunday morning to do the work, so they were very flexible in scheduling. They were on time. They took each vent cover off the wall and took it outside to treat with some sort of chemical. Our ductwork that delivers air has fiberglass insulation on the inside, which tends to trap dust, but that is just the way it is. Through some techniques they blow or vacuum (or both) all of the dust that can be gotten out of the ductwork without making any mess in the house.

THEY WERE VERY NEAT AND DIDN'T LEAVE A DUST MESS ALL OVER MY HOUSE. THEY DID A REALLY GOOD JOB, AND THEY BOTH WERE VERY POLITE WHEN THEY SHOWED UP. I WILL CONTINUE TO GO THROUGH THEM IF I EVER NEED TO HAVE THEM CLEAN MY AIR DUCTS AGAIN.

THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB. THE MEN WERE VERY FRIENDLY, AND THEY GOT THE WORK DONE QUICKLY. THEIR PRICE WAS REASONABLE AND MY WIFE AND I WILL DEFINITELY HIRE THEM AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.
