I was profoundly disappointed at both the quality of materials and the quality of the assembly instructions. Both were terrible. The bed frame was made from the lowest quality press-board I've ever used. It literally crumbled in my hands as I handled parts. The directions were woefully inadequate, just crude pictures really, hundreds of parts were neither labeled or numbered to identify, and there were several times where I had to undo assembly to correct something that simply wasn't clear in the instructions the first time through.
I was mistaken in my assumptions regarding the quality of the IKEA products. I feel like I paid a lot for a cheap Wal-Mart quality product.

2 and 1/2 months later,

The representatives that I spoke with at the store either lied to me when I bought the bed or did not know the correct information to give me. After using the bed for a while, I have determined that I am not sleeping well on the mattress. I called to make arrangements to return it under the 90 day guarantee, something that was portrayed as so easy and routine at the time of sale. Instead I got transferred around again and again (trying to get me to the right department), told incorrect information (different representatives gave me different and conflicting directions for return), and had my call mysteriously and quot;droppedand quot; twice while I was on hold. Instead of the free pickup I was promised on purchase, it is now a $100 fee which is twice the original delivery fee for the mattress.

IKEA obviously has a finely honed strategy of throwing up misinformation and barriers when someone actually wants to return something. I take back my earlier comparison with WalMart. It was not fair to WalMart, they have much better service.

Their literature directs you to a call center in Washington DC. I explained the situation to them and asked them to replace the faulty part. I was told I must drive back to the store and deal with them there. I explained it's about 40 miles each way of city traffic and takes at best 1/ 1/2 hours round trip, and asked that they replace the part by mail. No, can't do that. May I speak to a supervisor please? That resulted in two long holds, being cut off once, and after being on hold for 40+ minutes I gave up. I do love their fun design and admire their engineering, to me it's just not worth risking their horrid customer service system. I think it unethical to punish customers for Ikea's errors.

I got a great deal on the cabinets. The hardware is great. You get the same warranty other brands give out. They offer services of someone coming in to help you install them if you want to. We installed them ourselves.
