Dog Walking
She is awesome! She is punctual, professional, and courteous. We simply don't know what we would do without her. My mom's dogs adore her, and that says it all.

Animal & House Sitting, Dog Walking
Shannon worked for me for three years, when I am visiting in Sedona. In the beginning, she was wonderful. I have paid her $30 per hour. She walked my three dogs seven days a week, and helped me with things around my house since I am a 65-year-old wheelchair-bound woman. If she stays more than one hour, the next hour is also $30. In addition to payments, I have given Shannon numerous trays of fruit with cheese, chips, crackers, and meals. 'Thank you' does not seem to be in her vocabulary. Since I have been back this trip in Sedona for two months, she has been moody and inattentive to the pets and to what she's doing in the house. She has her cell phone in her hand almost constantly. In the the last two weeks that she worked for me, she told me that none of my three dogs pooped on the walk. That tells me that she is walking along, talking or texting on her phone, and not even stopping long enough for my dogs to do their business! Her employment with me ended when she was removing my thermostat from the wall in order to change the batteries, which she has done no less than twice before, and she smashed it onto the ceramic floor. Instead of apologizing, she started to complain that she was going to have to file a claim with her insurance company. Not once though, did she offer to reimburse me for the cost of the thermostat (approximately $150) yet she wanted the bill to submit! I never once asked her to pay for this thermostat. She told me she had filed a claim once before for the medical cost of a client's pet rat whose tail she cut off when closing the rat into a cage. She indicated that, of course, it was not her fault!? Did the rat ask to have its tail cut off? She voiced very little concern whatsoever about the fact that I was going to be without heat for a minimum of five days. In fact, she indicated how lucky I was that it was warming up. I don't consider temperatures in the 40s at night to be very warm. It had just snowed one week earlier. The thermostat was no longer in production and I had to order one on eBay, and then get help installing it.
She started to complain that she is not a handyman, as if changing batteries requires a handyman! She did go to purchase a small space heater which I used in my bathroom during the time I had no heat. She then told me she would only walk my dogs and did not want to help around the house. I told her I needed both and would let her know if I wanted her to walk the dogs. I paid her in full for her final days here. I hired a new dog walker, and found that Shannon had taken not only the role of poop bags that she was using for my dogs, which I was supplied, but she also helped herself to three other roles of unused poop bags from my closet! She is the only dog walker who has wanted me to supply poop bags, which I happily did. But for her to take them is beyond disgusting. I texted her and asked her to return my poop bags. She did not deny stealing them, and said she would bring me one and she wanted to pick up her heater. She also wanted copies of the bill for the thermostat, yet still did not offer to reimburse me. I have since found that the 'for sale' sign that I paid her to make with me and place on a lot I am attempting to sell, has completely disappeared from the lot. Draw your own conclusions on that one.
Shannon said she did not like the way I spoke to her when she broke the thermostat. She even went on to say that she would not deserve to be spoken to that way if she LOST SOMEONE'S DOG! If she thinks my being angry with her is worthy of her stealing from me, well, she is not someone I would recommend anyone to hire. I was complaining about the cost of replacing the thermostat and being without heat. And yes, I was not a happy camper BUT I did not call her any nasty names or anything like that. Sometimes she would come in here and say hello to the dogs and not even say hello to me. Talk about condescension Shannon! I don't know who she thinks she is, but I don't allow people to treat me that way. I don't know what is going on in her life that she is has become moody and inattentive, but that is not any of my business, or frankly my concern.
I am unable to change the category for this listing on my iPad app. Perhaps Angie's list personnel can do it for me. She was a dog walker, not animal and house sitter.

Response from Shannon's Pet Services
"I started Shannon’s Pet Services in 2009 and have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful pets and their families in Sedona, the VOC and surrounding areas. I worked with Ellen for approximately three years for seven days a week, when she was in Sedona. In addition to walking her dogs, I did many tasks I normally don’t do because I wanted to help her out as much as possible. On her last trip to Sedona, it became clear to me that I would no longer be able to provide the appropriate care that she needed. I explained to Ellen the reasons why I could no longer work for her. I did offer to continue walking the dogs until she could find a replacement. I am disappointed that after working with Ellen for close to 3 years, providing loving care to her dogs and doing many things outside of my pet sitting business, that she changed her A rating to a D. I am saddened that she wrote a review filled with statements and accusations that are simply not true. I hope that Ellen finds the help that she needs and some peace."

Shannon was wonderful with the kitties and they were relaxed and happy when I got home. She did a wonderful job with them and I highly recommend her!

The amount we have spent is a estimated total of pet sitting and pet waste removal that we have hired Shannon for. As she is currently providing our pet waste removal on a monthly basis as well as continuing to watch our dogs, this amount will definitely go up.
We interviewed Shannon when we began our move to Sedona, AZ. We were very leary as we had had some bad experiences with pet sitters in the past. Shannon quickly rid us of those fears.
Shannon has watched our pups on several occasions, including day trips as well as longer vacations. We currently have her scheduled for our spring break trip. She is conscientious, on time, our four dogs love her and we finally feel at ease leaving our dogs in a pet sitter's care. We are very thankful.
In some ways, we don't want to recommend her because we don't want her to be booked up when we need her, but that would be selfish now wouldn't it? =) She's a great pet sitter. Highest recommendations.
