Wanting job done, I now agreed to give him main part price he quoted, with the balance of job paid for upon completion. He could order, said I'd have money for him next day. Then didn't hear from him for a week. Called, he said he didn't know I'd have the money, that he was waiting for me. So he hadn't called or ordered the part. Figured that could be an actual miscommunication, let it slide. I had money, but couldn't get him to pick it up right away, he came to get it next day.
Part took almost a week to arrive, by that time we were going out of town. He wanted to do job while we were gone, but we wanted to be there when he did job. So we set a date for the job to be completed when we could be there, in about a week. Late morning on day we'd chosen, he called to reschedule. We weren't surprised. It seemed like he didn't care.
Research shows he charged extra for parts ordered, almost twice the amount for main part that I could buy myself. He charged for labor, expected and normal, but shouldn't be over-inflating and mis-respresenting price of parts.
Finally he came to do job, was surly, not nice. We hadn't had that from him before, had always been nice to him, so it was weird to have him working on our home. It was like he was a different guy than we first met. It took then took 2 days to complete the job he'd promised. Once done, all he wanted was the rest of his money. He didn't want to show us what he'd done. There were about 4 things done, but he didn't want to check that it worked. We gave him rest of money. Then inspected what he'd done.Of the 4 things he was supposed to do, only 1 thing was fixed. New parts he'd put in didn't work, things that were supposed to run now didn't, and it was clear he had left without them ever working. Now we understood why he hadn't wanted to show us what he did. It's clear he just wanted to get money, and doesn't have integrity in his work.We will never use him again because we can't trust him or his word. We'd have no problem if he had said -even during the job or in the middle of it- that he didn't have the knowledge to do the work, or that the job looked to be beyond his scope. But he didn't do that. He wasn't honest. We've since hired someone else. They've fixed what he did wrong and completed the job in a timely manner. We just wasted the money we paid Jerry at Northland Plumbing. But most of all we don't appreciate he was dishonest.
