Plumbing
We purchased the sink and a Delta pearl nickel waterfall faucet. We hired a plumber to install them. Mel had shown us that there were plugs on the backside of the sink that could be knocked out to accommodate a sprayer and a soap dispenser. The plumber said drilling them was better than knocking them out. He had heard about granite sinks that were damaged this way. Drilling out the plugs was not easy. Finding a caulk to use around a black sink also was problematic, but we discovered that Ace Hardware sells black caulk. The Silgranit sink is wonderful. It looks great. It's deep. It hasn't scratched and it obviously won't rust. We put the garbage disposer on the smaller side and the larger side has accommodated even our largest pieces of cookware. Per Mel's suggestion, we just rub a little olive oil over the granite periodically to maintain its luster. Mel recommended Bar Keepers Friend cleaner too, but I haven't needed it yet.

Appliance Sale, Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel + 1 more
Complete disaster, the replacement designer tried to help us but all the specs were wrong and the quote was $8,000 higher than it was supposed to be. Nothing was as we had specified. Apparently, Sears (who owns Great Indoors) had fired most of the CAD people for the 17 US stores, and hired only 6 people in CHICAGO, to do the work. They put our plans aside for questions and never followed up. The designer was nice, but she couldn't help us. At no time did her supervisor try to make amends, and I had to call twice and visit the store to get a refund. nd they almost screwed that one up too. We would buy appliances there, but we will NEVER use their design services again. They seem to have no idea how to run this part of their business.

They were amazing. You would think that the big store would be the worst deal. NOT SO! Because we worked with them on all three pieces, they beat the others by a mile. Also their installation and service were fast and good. We have had a few questions and they always call right back. A+.

Countertop and Backsplash Service
GREAT INDOORS CONTRACTS OUT TO A LOCAL COMPANY; WE DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THOSE WHO ACTUALLY DID THE WORK. DESPITE PREPARING A DETAILED TEMPLATE, THE COUNTERTOP WAS WRONG WHEN IT CAME. OVERHANG ON ONE AREA VARIED FROM 1/4' TO 1 1/2' WITHIN 10' SPAN OF COUNTER! TO FIX THIS, THEY GROUND IT DOWN IN OUR KITCHEN, RESULTING IN A TON OF DUST AND MESS WHICH WAS NEVER ADEQUATELY CLEANED UP. BAR AREA OF ISLAND HAD TO BE REDONE 3 TIMES; FIRST TIME THEY TRIED TO FIX IT ON SITE AND LEFT IT WITH WOOD PIECES GLUED TO THE BOTTOM (WHERE WE COULD SEE IT!!). THE SECOND TIME THE INSTALLERS BROKE IT, AND IT STILL WASN'T THE RIGHT SHAPE ANYWAY. WE GAVE UP AFTER THE THIRD ONE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S STILL NOT AS PERFECT AS I WOULD EXPECT. INSTALLERS FILLED IN HUGE GAPS (DUE TO UNPLUMB WALLS) WITH SILICONE AND TOLD US THAT WAS ACCEPTABLE. THE INTEGRAL SINK WAS INSTALLED TOO CLOSE TO THE FRONT OF THE COUNTER, AND THEY THEN BROKE THE TILT OUT DRAWERS UNDER IT WHEN THEY FORCED IT IN.

WE PURCHASED A REFRIGERATOR A YEAR AGO FROM JOHN ENKE AT THE GREAT INDOORS AND HAD TROUBLE WITH THE FINISH ON THE EXTERIOR STAINLESS STEEL DOORS. I VISITED THE STORE APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS AFTER OUR INITIAL PURCHASE AND SPOKE WITH THE MANAGER, BOB BUFALINI ABOUT MY PROBLEMS WITH THE REFRIGERATOR. HE SUGGESTED THAT I USE MY MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM, AS HE THOUGHT IT WAS A COVERED ISSUE. AS IT TURNED OUT, THE MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT DIDN'T COVER THE PROBLEM. I REVISITED MR. BUFALINI AT THE STORE. HE IMMEDIATELY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY TOOK CARE OF US BY ALLOWING US TO CHOSE A DIFFERENT REFRIGERATOR AND EXCHANGED IT FOR THE REFRIGERATOR WE PURCHASED ALMOST A YEAR PRIOR. IT'S SO NICE TO DO BUSINESS WITH SOMEONE WHO LOOKS FOR WAYS TO ACCOMMODATE THEIR CUSTOMERS RATHER THAN LOOK FOR WAYS TO NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE GREAT INDOORS, JOHN ENKE AND BOB BUFALINI WERE A JOY TO WORK WITH!
