If you've never gone through a relocation process. Beware. Make sure you understand who is working for whom, what motivations might be, and take extra care when negotiating the house inspection and the appraisal process. We had a terrible experience. The house inspector gave us an oral report-that everything looks fine and that things he noted were typical issues. Then he proceeded to write a report that looked like our house was going to fall apart. In the meantime, we had passed along the information to the agent and potential buyers that the inspection was clean. The Pru relo folks actually sent the buyers all of the materials before they sent it to us-and their copy was black and white, delivered via fax. Needless to say, the pictures and the tone of the report was scary indeed. The buyers walked. In the meantime, the appraisers delivered contradictory reports. Only one of the three appraisers did her homework and actually called to discuss the comps. I know Angie's List reports are to cover one service provider only, but this is a PROCESS involving several providers. My main point here is that we are extremely disappointed in how the prudential agents managed the process AND we strongly recommend that anyone else working with a relo process be very involved. Take extra care to select appraisers that do not just deliver a high appraisal for a buyer but a lowball appraisal for the relo/sellers.
