Cactus Valley Homes built our custom home. Don came highly recommended by our bank. He stayed on schedule in this period of supply chain issues with careful planning. He communicated daily, we always knew what was happening at the site and who would be onsite. He was very careful to make sure design details were satisfactory. He had high expectations of his subcontractors and manages them closely. Quality work! We will use him again on future projects.

Fantastic, After looking at tile at a big box store, getting the run around. We contracted with Cactus Valley and with a day every thing was in place and tile was laid the following Monday. Everything was done to perfection..

Don Burns was the best Contractor we could have ever hoped for. He was not only on the spot with estimates, but worked to uncover items missed on our plans. My wife choose him from his Ethical and moral standpoint. He was very pro active and had great advice with all, and had excellent communications with us. Mr. Burns was very professional and conscientious. The bid we received was a detailed 5 page list of items and costs to complete the project. All the other bids were 1 or 2 pages of general costs. He's very good at keeping in contact and returning calls. Once the work started it moved very quickly.

After my mother passed away January 2019, she left me her old 1970’s home that she lived at for 33 years in North/East Phoenix. Since I lived in Southern California at the time, I decided to remodel the home and relocate to Phoenix. However, I knew that the old home was very outdated with many issues and it required an extensive remodel so I emailed 3 different contractors from Angie’s List for bids on a remodel budget of 150k. I asked them to visit the home for a comprehensive remodel based on my “wish list”. Don, the owner of Cactus Valley Home was the last contractor to bid on the project and called me immediately. The first thing he said to me was “you want honesty or you want me to sugarcoat it”. His recommendation was to demo the existing home including the concrete slab and start from scratch. The home had way too many issues to only “remodel” as I expected. Plus, Don mentioned that I can move things around since it will be an empty piece of land. I asked Don to provide a rough estimate on the Demo and Build so I can review all bids that came in. The initial cost Don provided was approximately 80k over my initial budget so I decided to hire Cactus Valley Homes because I liked his honesty from the beginning. Don provides full in-house services. For my project we needed an Architect, Civil Engineer, Soils Engineer and many more. Don and I worked with my bank to secure the construction loan, Architectural concept and drawings, City Permits and all other approvals required to start the project. After all the approvals, we were able to start the demo in August 2019. Don gave me a timeline of 8-9 months to complete the build, however, we ran into issues with the City of Phoenix permitting department that Don and the Architect had to handle. The typical City permit approval should have been 2 months however, mine took a little less than 3 months which was beyond our control. The City required us to make several modifications to set-back and especially to grading & drainage. This was mainly for the way excess water flows during the Monsoon Season that required us to grade a 15x15 retention basin at the front of the home in case of a storm event (see photo – Tree in the middle). We finally received the full permits to start the build around mid-November 2019 and he started right after Thanksgiving Weekend. Throughout the entire build process Don stayed in touch with me and we talked 3-5 times a week. Don’s expertise is impeccable as he provided me with ideas that I never knew about. I was kept informed throughout the entire process. Don stayed on schedule and advised me when I needed to make decisions and choose all my finishes. He provided a budget and anything above and beyond was approved thru change orders. Don’s trades are also all professional and experienced, they every one did a phenomenal job. If I ever had any questions or concerns, Don corrected them immediately or he would get me on the phone with his trades so we can discuss options. He was very transparent through the entire process. I’m happy to report that the project was completed one month ahead of schedule, I was handed the keys on July 3rd 2020 after final city inspection and receiving the certificate of occupancy. The new home turned out better than expected, I’m glad that I chose Cactus Valley Homes to build my custom home. Don and his crew built an exceptional new home and it turned out perfect. I’ll be living in this home for many, many years!!!! If you’re shopping around for a contractor, please consider Don, he is honest and always gives you the straight answer, he never sugarcoats it……….. Cactus Valley Homes will always come highly recommended if ever asked for one. Thanks to Don and his team for all they did to make my new home a reality….

Don and crew did a miracle job on our dilapidated home. They've brought our dwelling from the 1980's into the 2020's! Their initial bid was very competitive. The timeline they gave us for work was accurate. The process Don initiated from beginning to end flowed well: choosing and installing cabinets, tile, flooring, plumbing fixtures, interior & exterior paint to our must-have add-ons. Their craftsmanship is impeccable. We'll call them again for our next project!

We are over the moon with our 2 beautiful bathrooms!! Don (owner) was on the job with his crew almost every day working and supervising his employees. Everyone from demo to the final paint job was professional and courteous. At the end of each day Don told us what time the crew would arrive the next morning to start work. With the exception of a hand full of days the crew was on the job working every day. The floor plan in the master bathroom was changed from the original builder footprint. Don knew just what had to be done to make our ideas happen. One of Don's strong points is his many years of experience in the building trades. He was able to overcome obstacles and produce a unique and beautiful product for us. He freely shared his vision and excellent ideas. Many of his ideas were better than ours. He brought a unique vision to our bathroom remodel. I am a big fan of the Houzz website. The master bath was to have porcelain Carrara tile along with genuine Carrara countertops and chair rail. One of Don's "things" is that when the same materials meet each other on a vertical and horizontal plane that meeting place needs to be interrupted by a different material. I had never seen that on any of the hundreds of photos I had looked at. I trusted Don and his idea worked out to be one of the striking design statements in the bathroom. Nobody else has a bathroom like ours. We had a large furniture cabinet with 2 large mirrors that Don had to integrate into a wall tile and chair rail wainscot. He accomplished this seamlessly. He worked to find ways to help us save money...yes, save money. When I asked for a separate make-up area he had a custom cabinet builder design, build, and paint the cabinetry. One of our requests was for a large shower with a long bench that would allow us to be independent and age in place. It needed to accommodate a walker or wheelchair if we needed one in the future. Don reinforced any walls he anticipated might need grabs bars. He also found decorative grab bars that closely matched our new shower heads and faucets. We used these grab bars as towel bars. This bathroom does not scream "old lady" in any way. It is stylish, functional, and safe Don also identified that the entrance to the toilet area needed a wider door in order to accommodate a walker or wheelchair if one was needed in the future. My husband and I are in our 70's. We have always done all remodeling work on our houses ourselves in order to save money. This is the first time we have turned over a job to a contractor. Even with our many years of experience, we could not have created the unique and special bathrooms Don created. I am a "control freak". We turned over the house to Don for 2 weeks while we went on a 12 day cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I did not worry one second. I knew Don would take care of everything. He only called us once while we were away to tell us the Italian trough sink we had purchased before we met him would not fit in American cabinetry. He had already picked out a replacement, emailed us a photo with pricing and that problem was solved in 5 minutes. He had used this particular trough sink in another job and he knew it would work for our application. We interviewed 4 contractors and spent 5 weeks interacting with them before we made our final decision. We chose Don for all of the above reasons. Don's bid was the most expensive. Part of the reason is because Don and his crew had to drive 1 1/2 hours each way to the job site. In addition, we paid a little extra for Don's expertise and connections. It was well worth it. Don's personality factored into our decision also. He is honest, straightforward, competent and a positive person. He always had a smile on his face even when there were hiccups. We were new to the whole "Draw" and "Change Order" process. All of Don's invoices were clear with detailed pricing and there were no surprises. I really depend on Angies List reviews. I can applaud Angies List for awarding Don multiple years of "Super Service Awards". Over the years he has consistently worked to a high standard and he deserves the recognition. We feel very lucky that Don was our contractor. We think very highly of him.

We could not be happier with our new bathroom. Don Burns, the owner of the company, and his two sons were excellent craftsmen and gave us exemplary service. No question was too small to ask, our requests were met with multiple alternatives to consider and the job was done neatly, creatively and came totally within the budget that we proposed to him. At our request, he sourced from local suppliers so our money was kept in our community, an important consideration for us. He, too, uses local sources for supplies which were one of the things that we appreciated about using him. We needed a few repairs t a skylight and plumbing work and he was able to oversee those as well. I couldn't be happier and would recommend him without reservation; in fact have to two friends already.

Fantastic! The carpentry and staining that was done was incredible. The design of the added wood matched the existing one to a tee. The same with the color of the stain. All of the cuts were done very neatly. What was added was nice and level. Don Burns and his son were very friendly, professional and courteous. Initially they gave us good advice on what would work in the laundry room. The work was professionally done. I would hire Mr. Burns and Cactus Valley Homes in a heartburn to do another home project for us. Thanks Angie's List for recommending him to do our job.

We are VERY HAPPY with our decision to select Don and Cactus Valley Homes to remodel our master bathroom. We weren't sure exactly who to choose to do the work, so we obtained quotes from 4 different companies to make our decision. One of the reasons we selected Cactus Valley was because Don was the only one that provided a professional recommendation against one of the features we were considering. That may sound weird at first, but we wanted someone to tell us if there were potential negatives to any of our ideas. We didn't have the expertise and wanted someone who was honest and up front from the start. Having a large window in our shower would likely lead to leaking and mold issues and is overall a bad idea. This was something we thought might be a concern, but Don was the only one that spoke up about it. The other contractors just said it would be fine and brushed it off even when we expressed our potential concerns. Don recommended replacing the window with a small one that was up high and rebuilding the wall so it wouldn't be getting direct constant shower water. He was more concerned with doing it the right way, and to us, that spoke volumes. We also did our homework and researched the heck out of his previous work, license, and looked for any complaints or issues. We loved what we saw, and didn't see anything negative in our research. Don was very communicative both in calls, texts, and emails throughout the entire process. He and each of his workers worked hard throughout the project, and went above and beyond our expectations for customer service. He was proactive in obtaining materials and being prepared for the job. He and his son both had great attitudes and were friendly every single day - even on days when it was super cold outside and their hands were frozen from cutting tile! Since the work was done in our master bathroom, we had a construction area right next to our bedroom, but they cleaned up the job area each evening which made the process less stressful. We had our single shower and tub removed and a custom double shower installed. It is gorgeous!! They remodeled the entire bathroom with a new window (had to rebuild the outside wall with stucco and all), vanity, sinks, countertop, faucets, toilet, and floor tile. They removed an old in wall medicine cabinet, and installed can lights in the new shower. Every step of the project was well planned and timed out by Don and he kept us up to date on what to expect throughout. If you want quality work with great customer service at a good price - this is the company you should hire. I know we will be reaching out to Cactus Valley in the future and have already recommended him to friends and family.

Work completed with in agreed time frame with minimal disruption to living in remainder of home. Only difficulty was not having a functional kitchen sink for the Thanksgiving holiday but everything went well with guests and dinner because contractors got range and refrigerator back in place to for the event. Finished kitchen looks great!

Contractor performed high quality work and met all agreed upon completion dates. Some minor delays due to illness but homeowner kept informed of reasons for delay. Business owner very considerate of clients needs and met all expectations.

Don created a work schedule and stuck to the timeline finishing the job on time. He treated this project as if it was his own home and was attentive, responsive and professional. We were out of town for this entire project. We were in California so it was a long distance job. Don did a great job keeping us informed and always had a detailed list for us when we came down to check on the progress. Don is very detailed and he got two bids from each sub contractor. Don has excellent design sense and his suggestions always made sense. We would recommend Cactus Valley Homes without reservation.

Quality of work was good but we decided not to move forward on a third project. I didn't like his communication and he became frustrated that I rushed him on one of the projects and it affected our relationship. He didn't roll with the punches very well in my opinion but his work and prices were fine. Be prepared for missives fired off in text form when he's not happy.

From the first time I met Don he was extremely professional and courteous. He was very thorough in the quote that he provided and made several modifications throughout the process to ensure that I was satisfied. At each step there was excellent communication about what was being done and when the workers would be at my house. His craftsmanship is excellent and he is very detail-oriented. Don has been a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail in design was very much appreciated. He enclosed an open room to create an office space and designed and installed a large custom built-in desk unit. The cabinets are beautiful and match our existing cabinets in our home. We were so happy with our office addition that we asked Don to design and install a mudroom in place of an existing cabinet. He also created new custom doors with speaker cloth for our media cabinet to facilitate better air flow in our built-in wall unit.
We are very happy with each item that Don has completed for us. The areas look like they were part of the original house vs. being a remodel. He matched our cabinets and the design aspects of our home. We would definitely utilize Don again for any remodel or construction needs that we might have. Thanks Don!
