WISH I HAD CHECKED ANGIE'S LIST BEFORE SIGNING THE CONTRACT WITH BATHPRO!
The sales and design process was good. Tina Marie is an excellent representative for BathPro, and all interactions up to and including contract signing were very satisfactory. The tile work was performed with diligence and attention to detail, and appears to be of good quality. I rated them a "C" in quality only because after all of our effort to get things fixed, the quality appears to be acceptable. Time will tell...
Unfortunately, nearly every other aspect of the remodel was terrible:
1) Horrible project management: The entire project was poorly managed; materials were not available causing multiple delays; days and weeks passed without any work. A project manager, Ted, was initially assigned, but he stopped coming over and the owner, Doug Sloat, seemed to take over, but that transition was never clear. There were several personnel changes during the process and Ted re-entered the project when discrepancies were discovered after BathPro indicated the job was complete. Ted was later replaced again by Doug.
a) Lack of configuration control: Workers used incorrect/ old/ draft BathPro drawings containing incorrect placement of the toilet and other items. These drawings were not the ones provided to us by BathPro for review/ approval; we had never seen this version of the drawings and there was no reason for them to be in the hands of workers. When questioned about this, BathPro replied they didn?t know how the workers obtained the drawings.
b) Undependable: Workers regularly arrived late or not at all. They would enter our small, 1,700 ft2 home without even knocking and once inside, would not greet nor introduce themselves to my husband or me.
c) Poor Scheduling: A schedule was never provided despite numerous requests; the entire project took 15 weeks from beginning of demolition to completion, including over five weeks to complete items noted on the final punch list.
d) Questionable billing practices: Upon completion of the work, BathPro submitted an invoice for the final 10% payment, neglecting to credit two items previously agreed upon.
2) Poor workmanship: Nearly every installation went wrong: Sink cutouts in the marble countertop were cut incorrectly, not allowing for proper faucet clearance; shower valve installed incorrectly such that cold water came out when hot was selected and vice-versa; incorrect toilet flush valve purchased and installed; damage from demolition and installation went unrepaired, etc. Each of these items had to be brought to BathPro?s attention by us. The type of damage raises significant questions about BathPro?s construction/ deconstruction practices and overall quality of workmanship.
a) Lack of attention to detail: Twenty items were still unresolved when BathPro stated they were complete with the remodel. Each of these items should have been checked and corrected by BathPro not by us.
3) Poor communication: Weeks would pass without any communication from BathPro.
a) Lack of follow up: Items would remain unresolved and BathPro would not proactively inform us of planned actions, next steps, or expected resolution without extensive prompting by us.
b) Nonresponsive: Despite voluminous email communications and requests from us, BathPro was responsive only 1) when seeking payment, and 2) after advised of planned actions to notify the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, the Better Business Bureau, and Angie?s List. Had BathPro been so conscientious and responsive throughout the remodel project, we would likely not be where we are today.
c) Discourteous: BathPro would complete work and wait to see if we found something wrong, even when the discrepancy was obvious. Throughout this 15-week ordeal BathPro did not apologize or say they wanted us to be satisfied. Upon project completion, BathPro ignored my previous direction to communicate only with me, and submitted the invoice to my husband.
We have lived in our home for over twenty years and previously completed one pool installation, two major remodels, one moderate renovation, and two significant landscaping projects. We have not ever suffered such a horrible experience as this one with BathPro on this small (66 sq-ft), simple, bathroom remodel.
Seven (7) WEEKS and still an incomplete project. To say the least I have
been very disappointed in the entire process, from the start of scheduling, or lack of, to the installation which started by assigning a tile worker that did such a poor job and after one (1) week of installation he walked off the job, probably realizing he was in too deep to make the job right.
Not only the inconvenience, but the mess I have incurred throughout this process. The tile setter cut tile in my garage right next to my car. The tile dust covered my garage floor and my entire car.
Someone else was sent to re-demolish the project and start again!
They scratched my existing floor tile in the process. replaced with mismatched tiles, had to replace, replaced with mismatched grout. During this time, scheduled times were given and rarely kept. The job was left abruptly during the day saying they were to return and NEVER DID. Other days of work were scheduled, again NO SHOW!
This company has many problems, starting with basic customer service and the along with the lack of skilled tradesman. This has been a total nightmare!
The process took exactly 11 weeks to complete all 3 bathrooms. There were a few hiccups along the way but Jim, the foreman, was excellent at addressing each concern and getting it resolved in a timely manner.
In the end we are extremely happy with the results of our three bathrooms and we would refer them to a friend just as long as they know that the salesperson will give them a timeline (ours was 3 weeks) but the Foreman has the realistic answer (ours 11weeks).
