I have a house that sits on a raised mound of dirt to keep it above the flood plain. The ground slopes away from the house on three sides and it was impossible to landscape this, as the water kept running down the hill instead soaking in around the plants. I went looking for a vendor to build the block wall. This vendor was recommended by the builder of my house. I talked to several other vendors who told me that my job was too small or charged significantly more for the work. David came out to my house and did a complete walk through of the job. He gave me a written proposal for the work. One week later (on the day we had agreed on), his crew came out, and they started digging the footings for the block wall. They spent the next two days digging and setting up the forms. Toward the end of the second day, we discovered that they hadn't dug the trench deep enough, I hadn't pulled the dirt off the slope and it looked deep enough until you actually started pulling the dirt down to the level. David said "no problem" and had his crew dig down the trenches to the right depth. After that they set the re-bar, poured the footings, the sidewalk, and the stair. Then they came back out built the retaining wall, put in reinforcing bar and pour concrete in the cavity, and then covered the whole thing with a coating of stucco. They kept the work area clean and made sure to identify any potential hazards up front. In my case, this was the location of the septic tank to make sure that the concrete truck didn't drive over it. They also made sure to close and lock all of the gates at the end of the day to keep my dogs from getting out. They were very conscientious. I removed the old dirt from the hill and filled in around the retaining wall. I will also paint the stucco to match the house.
Description of Work: 1. Install retaining wall on three sides of the house. 2. Install concrete steps down from the house to the backyard. 3. Install about 35 feet of sidewalk at the back of the house. 4. Stucco the side and top of the retaining wall.
