I had Sear come out at the end of December as our dryer wasn't producing heat - by the way, never had an issue with the machine in 8 years. The first time, the technician showed up on time with the estimated time window. My heating element was fine, but he had to replace the control panel. I paid the $79 fee for them to come out and then had to pay for the control panel replacement and labor. After a few weeks my dryer wasn't working again. I'm handy and checked to make sure everything was working properly and I did my own troubleshooting and figured it was the same thing. I had to call them out again. I would have repaired it myself, but I just had shoulder surgery. The second time around, the same technician came out. He didn't bother to check what he replaced, he called me in my laundry room after he pulled the drum belt out stating that it had broke. I asked him how I would know it broke and he said I should be able to hear the engine run, but the drum would not turn.....before he came the drum was moving properly. Well, now my drum belt has been broken so I have no choice but to get it replaced and it's his word against mine. After he replaced the drum belt, he then proceeded to tell me that the control panel he replaced wasn't functioning again, so he replaced it again - seems he should have checked that from the beginning. I didn't get charged again for the same problem, but was charged for the drum belt and labor - which at this point I feel he did in fact cut the drum belt. I called Sears right away...they seemed unconcerned that their technician may have pulled the wool over my eyes. It has now been a few weeks since he was out....and guess what? My dryer isn't working again! I called and made the appointment stating I didn't want the same technician out because I felt he took me for a ride the last time he was out. They said they couldn't guarantee what technician came out, but would note it. I had a window appointment time of 8a-12pm today. They have an online feature that allows you to follow updates on your order. I first got a phone call at 8am saying I had a technician assigned to me. At 9:30a the online feature showed they would not be to my home until 11:45a-1:45pm. I called customer support and they told me that the technician wouldn't be at my house till 6pm. After talking to several representatives and trying to speak with a supervisor or manger, I gave up and told them to cancel my appointment. I told them I was curious and asked them if the same technician who came out the first two times was on my schedule and they said it was the same technician and there were no notes. I was getting to get on a meeting around 2:30p and my doorbell rings and it's Sears? I told them I had cancelled the service and I had to leave. The technician that showed up was new, so I guess I lucked out....too bad they showed up late. We have been buying our appliance from Sears for over 15 years - we are done.
To sum this review up: #1 Watch out, the technicians are sneaky. #2 Sears customer service is terrible and will not let you speak with a manger or supervisor. They will tell you to wait and tell you they are transferring you to someone who can further assist you, then transfer you to a different customer service representative and you become their problem. I called 3 different Sears numbers this morning and each time I called I had to give them the same information. #3 If you plan on hiring this company, plan to block your entire day out.
