When the work started, I insisted upon a contract. However, the provider kept giving me a very generic contract that didn't say much. I had him include the cleanup and that he would present me with multiple colors and types.
When the crew came out, the owner wasn't with them. They only brought one grade of roofing with several different colors. I asked for more choices, and they said that the owner was coming soon. After that, they started taring off the roof.
The owner didn't arrive until the next day and he brought one choice of grade and color. It was the top of the line grade and I liked what I saw. The next day, the works brought a different grade of material and it was not the one that I was presented with. I asked to see it and after some resistance, they showed me what they had. However, since they already tore the roof off, they held me hostage to get the roof completed.
When the work was finished, they did a terrible job cleanning up. Personally, I found 10 pounds of nails were swept into a the ceder bush, among other debris. Nails were all over the ground and I have even got a flat tire. If I had to guess, we were left with over a 1/3rd of the cleanup.
I have since let him know that I did not appreciate the bait and switch and that I thought that he deviated from our contract.
