The wizard is semi retired, he's a very old man and was not there either time I visited.  Too bad, seems like someone worth meeting.  Staff at the store were knowledgeable and stocked a wide variety of parts.  Staff did have a sort of arrogance condescendence about them and prices were insane even for a specialty shop.  One Item was marked at $45 but I was told that the price was old.  Now it was $69.  As that was the part I needed to replace I sucked it up and bought it.

We made a good faith effort to resolve this ripoff with Steve Brown and the Wizard of Odz. From Brown all we got was lies and finally he would not return our phone call or respond to our letters. We attempted to cancel the credit card charge but we found out Brown also lied to the credit card company and the amount of time needed to seek arbitration was not cost effective. Plain and simple, we were ripped off. Final note, I went back to the store who reccommended the Wizard of Odz, showed the manager the garbage Steve Brown sold us and he was in utter disbelief and showed all his employees, who also could not belief what they were seeing. Steve Brown is the Bernie Madoff of lamp repair!

PROS: Very knowledgeable, work was done VERY quickly. CONS: In the recent past, living in Pennsylvania, I've had numerous lamps in for repairs, along the lines (age of lamps and type of repairs) of these I took in to the Wizard of Odz. However, until now, I'd never paid more than $40 per lamp for lamp repair. Hence I was a little shocked by this bill, especially considering that some of the repairs were upgrades that I felt a bit strong-armed into at the time (replacing a brown cord with a gold one, for instance). Also, my favorite lamp of the 3 was found, on arrival home, to have new, prominent discoloration at the base (it's silver plate), previously in pristine condition, they cleaned all 3 lamps up beautifully, and perhaps this was just some residue. I'm going to wait and see, Having said that, these people are professionals, were very knowledgeable, very helpful, and courteous, and a craftsman has to make a living so I don't begrudge the cost, merely wish I'd been a more proactive consumer and asked for estimates. After moving back to Phoenix after years away, I used the List to look up lamp repair. I went with the Wizard instead of another shop, where my family has always gone in the past. Next time I think I'll go with the family favorite and see what kind of luck I have there.

What a fabulous and unique place! I have one of those "touch" lamps that decided to stop working. The lamp was originally $10 from Target and the repair would have cost $30, so we all agreed to just buying and self installing a cord switch instead. Steve Brown is a great guy with quite a story. I never would have known about him if I hadn't looked him up on Angie's List!

Strange and wonderful: That s the best description for this place. I don't remember who first told me to take a lamp to the Wizard of Oz for repair, but whoever they were, I still thank them. A scarecrow beckons you off Bell Road, and when you get inside you're not in Kansas any more. The place is filled with wild, campy antique light fixtures and shades, and your first thought is this IS strange. Then you see someone going out the door with a freshly repaired, staggeringly expensive solid crystal chandelier. The Wizard can fix about any problem with lamps and light fixtures, new or old. In the past few months they have re-wired two 1950s lamps inherited from my mother very nice when they were new and not items I m about to give up. They ve renovated several other lamps, some newer than the ones Mom bought a half-century ago. The price is always reasonable (unlike prices at a certain emporium down on McDowell) and the adventure of visiting the Land of Oz is always worth the time.

I HAVE HAD A WHOLE GRAVEYARD OF DEAD HALOGEN LAMPS- USUALLY BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE DIMMER SWITCHES AFTER A FEW YEARS. THE LAST LAMP I PURCHASED HAD THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY, AND NOW I HAVE A PLACE TO TAKE MY OTHER DEAD LAMPS! THE LAMP NOT ONLY WORKED, BUT USING THE LAMP ON DIM DID NOT HAVE THE USUAL HUM ASSOCIATED WITH DIMMING THE LIGHT. MY LAMP WAS REPAIRED ON THE SPOT- NO WAITING FOR DAYS OR WEEKS.

WE WERE JUST ABOUT TO PURCHASE ANOTHER OUTSIDE CHANDELIER BECAUSE OUR OLD ONE WAS GETTING A LITTLE OLD LOOKING AND NEEDED REPAIR. MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED TO CHECK WIZARD OF ODZ OUT JUST TO SEE WHAT THEY SAID AND COMPARE HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST VERSUS A NEW CHANDELIER. WE ARE VERY PLEASED WE DID. WE SAVED A LOT OF MONEY AND OUR CHANDELIER LOOKS ALMOST NEW. WE HAD THE CHAIN, CANDLE COVERS AND SOCKETS REPLACED. IT 'CLEANED' UP WONDERFULLY! I WOULD USE WIZARD OF ODZ AGAIN IF I HAVE ANOTHER LAMP REPAIR.
