"Thank you for your review. We feel we can provide better service having the installer provide the estimate and your positive feedback reinforces that Enjoy your shelves!"
Before Gabe installed the series of pantry shelves, he was unable to calculate the distance that would be remaining between each shelf after it was installed. This resulted in the need to change the distance between several of the shelves because the resulting space was too small to hold the needed cans/goods. However, Gabe was willing to make the needed changes. Two of the shelves shipped did not fit the existing stack-able space. It was necessary to reorder the shelves so I changed it to 3 shorter shelves in the space instead of the two shelves originally shipped. Because of this it was necessary to remove the existing dividing shelf. "Sliding Shelves" employees do not do any needed carpentry required other than to install the shelves.
Gabe came back on Monday to install the last 3 shelves allowing me time to have someone remove the existing shelf and time for me to repaint that space. Gabe removed all of his materials and tools. Each time there was a light smattering of sawdust and wood splinters remaining so I vacuumed and scrubbed that up.
Overall I really appreciate having shelves that pull out so I can see everything. I do remain disappointed in the visual appearance of the shelves.
"We are sorry that you are not 100% satisfied with your shelves. We bring a sample shelf on our sales calls so you can see what the finished shelves will look like. This sample shelf is manufactured the same as the shelves that were installed in your home. We make all of the shelves ourselves in our facility here in Phoenix, there is no outside manufacturer. There are no staples used anywhere in building the shelves. There is also no plastic covering on the shelves. There are two very small brad nails used in each corner of the shelves. These are the mechanical fastener that are part of the shelf construction. The brads are on the side of the shelves and not really visible unless the shelves are extended and even then they are barely noticeable. The shelves are finished with two coats of lacquer and are hand sanded. We build these shelves to last a lifetime and we warranty them for that long. They would not last very long if there were no mechanical fastener to hold the shelves together. We think the shelves are quite attractive but we put durability and function as our first priorities. After all they do spend most of their lives behind closed cabinet doors. I suspect if you look inside your cabinet you will find some of the hardware used to assemble the cabinet is also visible. Gabe has been installing the shelves for several years and is capable of calculating the space that the shelves will take. He had no problem changing the 9 7/8" shelves that you originally ordered to 4 7/8" shelves. We remade the shelves to the reduced height and Gabe made the return trip with no additional charges. Shelves That Slide employees are willing to do some additional carpentry as needed to install the pullout shelves but the work you wanted was outside of the realm of what Gabe felt comfortable doing. The work involved removing a permanent shelf from the cabinet and that can be part of the cabinet structure. Bringing a handyman to do the work and allowing the inside of the cabinet to be painted before the shelves were installed was the proper way to do the job. Our shelf installers are busy enough doing shelf installations and sales appointments and do not need to take work away from the local handy people. I know Gabe tried to be as clean as possible while doing the installation. There is usually almost no sawdust left behind installing screws. The excepting would be if he was modifying the cabinets cutting out a center stile etc. Gabe said he was aware you were following him around with the dustpan and broom and he tried to be as clean as possible. We hope you find that the shelves make your life easier and help keep your kitchen and pantry cabinets organized. We design and build these shelves so that you should never have any problems with them. If you ever have any problems please do not hesitate to call. We have been installing these shelves in Phoenix for over 20 years"
The work was well done and they had our items installed within two weeks of the measurement.
Very nice people on the phone and in person,
He had to come back the following day and completed the job. When I asked him about the 2 additional drawers, I was told those would be special orders and he was too busy to do them. I was told they weren't part of the company's inventory, yet I had seen them on the website. The extra brackets and separators cost us an additional $140, which seemed a bit high, but I'm not going to argue with someone after the fact.
We are happy with the job and very pleased with what was done, but I'd be happier with the 2 extra items I had requested.
OVERALL, this was a big hassle and I definitely expected better since Angie's List had given them a good rating.
