Second Home Pet Resort

Our dog loved Second Home. The people who work there clearly love dogs and treat them very well. We enjoyed getting the dog's "report card" when he left. We will definitely use Second Home again. There probably are cheaper places to leave your pet, but I think you get what you pay for. We are confident that our dog is being well-cared-for at Second Home.

It was great! The dogs enjoyed themselves and we were happy to leave them with the staff at Second Home Pet Resort! It's hard to find a good spot for the dogs, but this place is great!

We have boarded our cats here every time we go out of town. Our three cats share a penthouse suite. The cost is on a sliding scale. More for the first and substantially less for the next two. There is someone there 24 hours a day which I appreciate. One of our cats requires periodic doses of asthma medication. They monitor her and provide the medication as needed. This service is included in the boarding fee. Daily they get their turn to play in the cat atrium. They don't seem to have a high staff turnover which allows staff to get to know your pets better from visit to visit. They will respond to your email with updates on how your pets are doing. The facility is clean and safe. Our cats are well cared for and they do not appear afraid when we leave them there. When we pick them up they are relaxed. This indicates good, kind care in my book. We will continue to use Second Home and I recommend them to anyone looking for pet care.

LOVE this place, and having been using them for around 5 years -- pretty much since they opened. My cats love the place as well since they really DON'T seem interested in going home! And that's a first in our kenneling experience.



They have the largest cat kennels I've seen. I have 2 large cats who need space, so we put the 2 in the penthouse suite, which has 4 levels, with wide ledges, plus the lower level has no windows, so they can hide. There are smaller kennels with 2 levels as well. All our sound-proofed from the dogs/other noises. They provide bedding, toys, and food -- but I still provide my own. Each kennel has its own play/out time, and a cat atrium play area, so the cats get the opportunity to roam, climb, whatever.



These people really care about the animals. We had to board our cats for a week in January, and one was failing; we knew he didn't have much time left. Because he needed separation, we boarded the cats in the separate, smaller kennels. We later learned they were so concerned about my sick cat that they moved him into the penthouse suites for more peace and quiet -- at no charge to us! When he passed a couple months later, we got a sympathy card signed by all the staff. It meant so much.



I joke that I could take another trip for the price of boarding my cats, but I know I'm leaving them in good hands here. It may be a bit expensive, but not so out of line with other places, and they offer a lot. I can't recommend them enough!

Before I used them, I actually went over to look over the kennels myself because I can't just put my animals anywhere without knowing the sleeping conditions and things like that. I talked to the lady at the front desk and not only did she show me some that were vacant, she also showed me some that were occupied. The areas were really clean and pristine. I was really impressed with that. One of the things that I really appreciated was that even though they provided dog food, they allowed me to bring my own dog food for the dogs so that my dogs wouldn't be there for 4-5 days eating strained food. They were willing to feed my dogs on the schedule that I have them on where they would give them a certain amount of food in the morning and in the evening. They had dried out food out all day that they could snack on. Play time was included in the price which I thought was pretty good. They would take the dogs out of the kennel and somebody would play with them twice a day. Another things I really appreciated was that they call them "suites." My dogs could go out of the kennel into an enclosed area that was outside which was pretty good. They have a dog swimming pool there which is very clean, it had boulders and things like that. I think that the water is only a foot to 18 inches deep but they would take the dogs out at least once a day to let them swim there. I thought that was pretty nice. What they did for the dogs were above and beyond the call of duty but it's a same price. I bought my dogs over and somebody came out right away, took them to the area where they were gonna be staying, and showed me the area. They're very professional. When I was making the arrangement to have my dogs boarded there, they took the time to find out who the vet was. Before they would actually commit to me, they have to get proof that my dogs had been properly tagged and up to date on their vaccinations. Not only were they looking after my dogs but by verifying that, they were also protecting the other dogs that were in the facility. I'm gonna be using them again next month. Even though they're a little bit pricey, I would be willing to pay that extra price to make sure that my dogs were well taken care of.

We were very anxious about boarding our cat since he is only 4 months old and had never been away from home before. He also has had limited access to other humans and no experience with other cats, since he was an abandoned orphan when we found him in our back yard at 2 weeks of age. The staff at Second Home were just wonderful. We toured the facility beforehand and about a week before our trip we brought our pet over for an introductory visit. A staff member spent a good half hour with me and our pet and let him check out the play area, cat penthouse and condos, etc and even gave him treats. The webcam service is awesome, we were able to check on him online in realtime. On the first day of our vacation we had trouble with the hotel computer and a staff member, Cheryl, spent a lot of time on the phone with us troubleshooting the problem. She even emailed us screenshots of the webcam images so that we could see our pet playing and eating, until we were able to solve the computer problem (it was the hotel computer not a problem with Second Home). They answered our emailed questions promptly. On the day we picked up our cat, they even gave us snapshots taken during playtime and most amazing of all, a wrapped Christmas gift from our pet - a plaster cast of his front footprints with his name. Awesome! Although I rated price "B", it is borderline with an "A". We paid for extra services so our bill was kind of expensive, but it was well worth it for the peace of mind of having the webcam monitoring. Without the extras their prices are close to Petsmart and other facilities we checked out and much nicer and cleaner. Well worth the price!!!
