Our sales person came out and gave us a good summary of the costs and benefits. During the presentation, he listed several benefits including the capability of tracking production on a panel by panel basis. More on that later. Everything was fine throughout the installation process. The team installed the panels and cleaned up after themselves every day. After another couple weeks, APS finally came out and installed their meter and the system was ready to generate electricity. I called Harmon to sync the system and an installer came out immediately to do that. That's when the trouble started. Almost immediately after he left, we heard a pop and went to investigate. The system lights on the inverter were off, so I called Harmon. They sent out a troubleshooter and he determined after a full day and two visits that the inverter was bad. There was a two week delay while another inverter was ordered. That seemed lengthy to us. Even if Harmon had no inventory, why couldn't a faulty product order be expedited? Finally, the new inverter was installed but in this case, no one even informed us that it was. It took a phone call to Harmon to ask about progress before they told us it was already installed. When I visited the installed equipment, I found out that the Sunrun meter wasn't working either. Why didn't Harmon check that when they installed the new inverter? Another few days and the Sunrun meter started tracking electrical generation. After 2-3 more weeks, I decided I'd like to track solar generation on a panel by panel basis like our sales person said we could. I couldn't figure out how to do that so I called Harmon. They had no clue how to do that. Hmmm. The customer service person said that once the panels were installed, any issues were between me and Sunrun. I explained that their sales person promised this capability. Again, talk to Sunrun. Why? Wouldn't Harmon at least have fielded this question in the past? So first I looked on Google and there was a link to a page on the SolarEdge site (the inverter manufacturer) that said that SolarEdge had that capability on their inverter. But the installer had to register the inverter before I could get this functionality. Okay, another call to Harmon to ask if they'd registered the inverter. Again, don't talk to us, talk to Sunrun. Why, you're the installer? A call, a text and an email to our sales person from Harmon and no response whatsoever. Nice customer interaction... Now I called Sunrun a couple times and found out that while SolarEdge does offer this, that Sunrun decided not to include it on their leases a couple months back. I firmly believe that Harmon should have known about this. Just knowing would have saved me lots of phone calls and even more aggravation.

So far I find them very professional and are good at keeping me updated. The contract is reasonable and details what they will do and what we need to do. Prior to installation they do structural analysis of the roof and trusses to make sure our roof can handle the weight of the panels. No up selling on the roof just a pass or fail. So, so far so good. Will update further as the installation proceeds. I selected the lease as the low financial impact.
