I decided to give them a second try since they had been so responsive to my complaint. The second groom went fine and everything was done as requested. The problem is that I had to request typical grooming services (i.e. clean ears, shave abdomen and behind) I didn't feel like they were really aware of what a standard grooming for the breed was.
Regarding professionalism: The first groomer also asked me if I could print out maps for her next four stops since her phone was not charged. I thought this very unprofessional but I obliged. I gave a "C" for professionalism because it was much better when the first groomer returned and the second groomer was professional that I felt it was evened out.
I caught Linda, one of the employees of Galloping Groomer abusing my dog.
I have two Brussels Griffons that are rescues from a puppy mill. I have worked very hard for two years to get them socialized and unafraid of people. Linda has groomed them several times and is completely aware of this.
Linda had one of my dogs in the van when I looked out and noticed my neighbor knocking on the van door. When I didn't see Linda open the door I went out to see what was going on. As I approached the van I heard Linda SCREAMING PROFANITY, then things being knocked or thrown around and then I heard my dog YELP. I yanked the door open and asked Linda what was going on? As I climbed in the van to get my dog, who was half groomed and trembling on the table, Linda said "I'm sorry, I'm having a really bad day and she won't stand still to let me groom her rear end, my sciatica is acting up...." and then started crying and said she wasn't going to charge me. I got my dog and climbed back out of the van.
My neighbor, who had been standing out there for a couple of minutes said Linda had been cussing and screaming profanities at my dog the entire time she had been outside the van. That would explain why Linda didn't hear her knocking on the door. She didn't just snap and react badly in a difficult situation (and obviously dogs can be difficult to groom) but, this had been going on for at least 3 - 5 minutes. And God only knows how long it had been happening prior to my neighbor walking up to the van.
There is absolutely NO circumstance that would make abusing a dog to this degree acceptable. I immediately called Galloping Groomer, talked to the owner (I don't remember her name) and reported in detail what had just occurred. To be honest, the owner sounded somewhat nonchalant and said "There are two sides to every story, I don't know what happened there today."
Are you kidding me?? It doesn't matter what the "story" was. The fact is she abused my dog and I have a witness.
If Linda ever reads this: I don't care how bad of a day you were having, or how much pain your sciatica was causing you.... what you did was beyond unacceptable. You KNOW how hard I have worked to socialize Pixie and Cricket. You've seen their progress and commented on how much friendlier and less timid they have become. I'd like you to know your cruel actions have caused a set back with them and they are afraid of people again. You should be ashamed of what you did to 12 helpless pounds of innocent love.
When the grooming was done, Simba was calmer (still not happy, but calmer since he was back in his home) and looked, smelled, and felt beautiful. Izzy used oatmeal soap on Simba because of a skin condition and Simba is still looking much better (one week later). Izzy explained that he had not trimmed Simba's toe nails because Simba was extremely agitated by that time and he did not want to risk upsetting him more. I appreciated Izzy evaluating the situation and doing what was best for Simba (Izzy read my concern and love for Simba correctly).
The office called a few days later to follow-up and see how everything had gone. I appreciated the opportunity to let them know how well it had gone.
I'm new to the valley and believe I've found my groomer!
It went great! Sandra kept me well informed on the time that Linda would arrive. I immediately liked Linda because we spent a few minutes going over pictures and talking about how we would want Quincy to look now and when he got a little older.
She answered all of my questions and was very willing to work with me on Quincy. She carefully scooped him up and an hour later came back with a beautiful, happy and not-stressed-out dog! Wow, what a difference she made and I was absolutely thrilled he didn't seen stressed...he strutted around like he was in a dog show!
I called that day and scheduled appts thru June since I am in and out of town a lot. I will definitely use again as long as they maintain the level of service that Linda provided! Thanks, Galloping Groomer!
