Paid $7,000. down They demo the bathroom. You are on their schedule to do things. Luckily I figured I was off that week and was told it would only take a month to complete the job. They had access to a key to my house until July 20th, that was almost a month.
Plumber had to come four times, and then the owner came himself to fix a error that the plumber did as it was put in backwards in the shower and then he had to redo what he did twice since the water wouldn't get hot.
The sink was put in crooked so they had to come back out and break it out because the granite was already sealed on top.
They no showed for contractors for three days in a row that nothing got done. Then that same week on Saturday their hired helped named Carlos, and his helper walked off the job because when they were installing the tile on the tub, I said that the piece was drastically different than the other one next to it. One piece looked darkish brown the other looked whiter. Even after I told him that these pieces looked good and I wanted the pieces to at least match in the front so they look similar, he still put what he wanted to put in its place. So because I didn't like something that I am paying good money for, they quit. Now at this point the owner was even furious that they just walked off and tried to talk to them but they just said contact their boss. (So this is what you have to deal with because it is a Contractor hiring another Contractor and they don't have any control over them because it is not their employees).
Canyon Kitchen Cabinets will say that it was me being picky but it wasn't. Even the tile guys that they had installing this marble tile that by the way the Owner picked out for me and chose for me to buy that cost me extra $$$$ so now it is my fault and problem that there are issues with the tile that was purchased from a local big tile company here in ARIZONA. So, the OWNER kept telling me himself that the tile wasnt good and that he would look to change them out. Once again, Carlos came back to fix the tile that the owner broke.
Now, the Owner wanted to save money and not have the plumber come back because they had already came to the house so many other times for other issues, like when Kerry the assistant had them come out but the faucet handles were not there yet but the valves were. So once again, this becomes my issue and my fault because we had ordered upgraded fixtures according to them. So my question has always been, why did they schedule the plumber to come out knowing this???
Over the course of time, it has been that this company is family owned, and they all act like they don't talk to one another and they probably do but blame ignorance. All the way down to the sales person which is their son. Even the owner Norm, would make comments that his son has got to stop quoting people like this because he had another lady doing the same thing I was doing. Meaning stating why I am I paying for this and that since it says in the contract valves included. Or that when I stated to him, that when I think of a fixture for a faucett I am not thinking I have to pay for the valves, or the attachment that goes with it or the elbow, etc.! None of this is explained in the contract. Then there were verbal agreements that were made, that they didn't keep, but I kept mine. There were also things in the contract that I wanted that I had to compromise on because I was told they couldn't do it or that it wouldn't look good doing it that way.
Things were not explained very well by this company. I also had a boarder put in the shower, and it doesn't line up from corner to corner with the same pattern. There also was a tile chip in the corner edge of the tile floor on the ground and the tile guy puts it in an main walking path. When I question them on it I am told "that is what I get for getting close out material." I told them that I am trying to live within the parameters of your tile allotment in the contract.
That is also the issue with this company, that what they quote for a price and what I told their son, the salesman, that I wanted travertine flooring and that I wanted a hand held shower with a diverter and travertine floor, and he quotes me $4.00 dollars a sqft. Well had I known that you cant buy that even at cost, then I would have known to ask for a higher amount. He even said," If it is a dollar here or there more not a big deal we will cover it. " That is not what happened. It is my fault for not being educated enough on tile install and purchasing of tile, and fixtures, and marble etc. That is why I hired someone else to do this bathroom job for me because I did not know. I am now wanting others like me to know the facts before they contract a COMPANY to do work for them. Don't be in a hurry, I was when I hired them. RESEARCH!
Lastly, the tub once again is not finished. I was told by three of their own hired help that the tile purchased and picked out by the Owner, has cracks and cannot be used. The owner himself cracked two of my tiles as he had to remove them from being thin set because he didn't install the faucett gaskets correctly and couldn't get to the screws. So he tried to remove it gently but once again, because of the cracks the marble broke. So that is when I was here until 6pm last Tuesday night after the owner scavaged for tile people (and he even tried paying one of them money on the side) that the tile cut could not be done and it broke. The owner screamed so loud that I thought someone got hurt during the cutting of the tile. He was upset because the new tile broke again. So now the owner was apologetic and sorry and even though he told us earlier not to get upset he will get this done today, well it didn't. So I rearranged my schedule time with my son off from school and our plans to agree to have them come on Labor Day 2014.
Once again late, and I thought the owner would show up. However; I looked on my front porch and there were four tiles in a box to my surprise because it wasn't there yesterday. I went through the box prior to anyone showing up and there was a defect in three out of the four tiles. So my hope was to use the one good piece by the faucet area for the tub, the second piece for the smaller edge of the tub. The tile guy showed up an hour and half after the scheduled time. I told him the situation with the tiles. He said he could not use but only two of the tiles. Of course one had the defect in the back where if you tapped just right that the marble would break if hit or something dropped on it. I even called the Owner and left a message about it. No response, ignored by Canyon Kitchen Cabinets. I told the tile guy not to use that piece, he said he couldn't because the other pieces were cracked on the back and he could not cut through them or they would break. I said okay as long as he didn't use that part of the tile where the defect is and he agreed. Well that did not happen and I told the tile guy not to install that piece and I will call Norm the Owner to see what we ca
Issues (only two) were resolved quickly. I will be calling them again when we are ready to remodel the bathrooms in the house.
"Thanks- it was a pleasure working with you! Just give us a call if you need anything else!"
We were delighted by their professionalism, their engagement and their ability to manage a myriad of contractors and service people. This firm is grounded in doing things right and doing them well. From early conversations with Kirk, the estimator, to day-to-day communication with Pam and Kelly, the project went extremely smoothly. Norm dropped in regularly to review the work being done and made sure everything was done properly. When we had questions or concerns, someone from CKC took care of them the very same day...and always to our complete satisfaction.
When we first began the process, we read that it was important to find a company you like and most important to find people in the company that you relate to and can trust. This is the firm! Everyone we talked with and worked with was polite, professional, and focused on doing a great job. Our kitchen is lovely, just lovely. We celebrate getting it done every day.
The resurfaced cabinets look fantastic!! We couldn't be happier with the quality of the work. We were very pleased with the installers who did the work. They were pleasant and hardworking and cleaned up at the end of each day. The installation of the countertop and s/s sinks went smoothly without any problems. Our only disappointment was on the last day of the job when the plumber scratched the new sinks while connecting the taps and hooking up the garbage disposal.
Everyone was professional, arrived as scheduled and completed their job. Would recommend them and use them again.
"We do not have any record of customer calling us recently with any issues with her doors. We did receive a call in December of 2009 regarding a door delaminating and we replaced it. We have left a voice message for customer to contact us regarding this post."
