Beltmann Group Inc

Over the past 35 years we've had 13 moves.  This move was absolutely the best.  The packing crew was professional and pleasant, as was the driver and loading/unloading crew.  This was the only move out of the 13 where we had nothing lost, nothing damaged, and nothing destroyed.  That's 11,000 lbs. of goods, some of which were fragile, without one problem.  Kudos to these crews!

The first problem was the van showing up without enough space for our entire load.  The driver said he had picked up an earlier load in LA which was 3000 pounds over-estimate, and that's why he couldn't take our entire load.  Beltmann told us they would get a second van to carry the remainder of our load.
The first load arrived on time, though with major damage to a couple of irreplaceable and fragile art pieces.  When the second load had not arrived by June 14th, we contacted the move coordinator who told us that that shipment had not yet left Phoenix.  By Wednesday of the following week, with the shipment now four days past the guaranteed delivery date, we called the coordinator again, and again she told us that the shipment still had not left Phoenix.  Later that day we got a call from A-1 Moving and Storage in Appleton (the North American agent in Northern Wisconsin) saying that they had our shipment and wanted to deliver on Friday, the 21st.  (A-1 did show up as promised and did a good job of unloading.)
We called the moving coordinator at Beltmann to let her know we had our shipment and asked her about compensation for the delayed delivery, since we accumulated about $1100 in direct expenses due to the delay.  She said there would be no problem with reimbursement and sent us the claim form.  We filled out the claim form, attached the original vouchers, and sent them off to North American's headquarters in Indiana.  A week later we received a letter from them denying all of our delay claim.  They did say they were sorry for the delay and that they "prided themselves" in delivering great customer service.
Clearly neither Beltmann or North American know what is going on with their shipments, and they certainly could care less about fairly treating their customers.

UPDATE: After another month of negotiating, Beltmann worked with North American and secured a reimbursement of about half our direct costs due to the late shipment arrival and for about half the cost of the damage done to our furniture.  We felt good about Beltmann working to secure some refund, but North American was a real problem throughout the move.

Their representative was quite good but the rest of it was okay. I don’t enjoy moving so it was like visiting the undertakers. It was not something that I wanted to do; it was something I had to do. I spent about $2,500. There wasn’t anything that got me upset. I will probably use them in the future.

They gave us free boxes, bubble wrap, tape and wrapping paper. Our representative's name was Kim. Our driver's name was Jesse and he was super. He was very flexible and they showed up on time and within 2-3 hours they were pulling away. It took longer to unload but that was due to the local person in Wisconsin who called in sick. Jesse unloaded everything himself in Milwaukee and made use of his time efficiently.
