All old landscaping was removed except for two large Palo Verde trees in the front yard. We interviewed 7 landscapers/landscape architects. Rick (owner of Arizona Terrain) is a gifted artist and outdoorsman who loves the Arizona desert. His design was unlike any of the other designs we were presented with. His prices were in line and sometimes cheaper than the other 6 bids. His sub that provided the LARGE boulders was reasonable with prices. Rick wants to please his clients. It was a big and complicated job. Rick provided some extras not stated in the contract. Rick worked with the pond/waterfall company we contracted with in order to seamlessly integrate their work with his work. There were no egos. He had a vision and the completed yards were even better than we could imagine. Rick chose low water use plants, including Lady Banks roses, shrubs, flowers and cactus and artistically placed them for an outstanding, beautiful, low maintenance and welcoming retreat. I never thought a desert landscape could feel so welcoming and intimate, interesting, and beautiful. His design is of a high caliper and could be featured in Phoenix Home and Gardens magazine. Rick does other designs besides desert designs. When you are a trained artist you can work in many styles. Rick installed a new Bermuda grass lawn in the backyard. He spread a new water saving additive they are using in CA. before the new sod was rolled out. The sod is on a 4-5 inch base of top soil and manure. Unlike other landscapers that roll out grass on top of the desert soil and expect you to grow grass on a brick, Rick does the job properly. Rick prepared the base to insure low water use. He also used the latest sprinkler heads that do not mist (water wasters). The landscaping was completed in May 2015 just in time to face the 115 degree temps. Grass and shrubs look great this Spring with new growth starting. Rick was helpful and understood our need to save money. He was kind enough to run all the wiring for us so we could install the landscaping lighting at a later date. He also helped my husband with the drip irrigation to my flower boxes on the new back porch. Rick is an all around "nice guy". Our 11 year old grandson was fascinated with all the machines and activity and he woke up early for school so he could come over and watch. Rick gave him an Arizona Terrain shirt and worked with him for an entire morning so he felt like he was part of the crew. Rick gets an A+++++
Rick maintains a tight crew and does not over commit on schedule. The company is small enough that he has a handle on everthing going on.
I highly recommend him.
