Ron showed up on a Monday morning and began work. He told us that he would probably only work six hours in a single day due to working exclusively outside on my project and the summer heat was here. I told him that was not a problem. We were not in a rush for it to be completed. I did not know that the slab that Ron was laying the tile on was not square. (It was put in before I moved in.) Ron had to take numerous measurements and lay down new chalk lines so that the tile would come out looking straight. He made sure that there would not be a sliver of a tile anywhere on the slab.
Ron worked many more hours on this project than he had expected to. I offered to pay more, but Ron said that the quote was what he was sticking to.
Ron was very meticulous on his work. The way the tile has been laid out and cut, it was difficult to tell that the slab was not square.
I would use Affordable Home Maintenance again for any work around my house.
I called Ron for some repairs to one of my doors that was damaged from a burglary. He arrived on time, assessed the damage to my door and made his recommendations for the repair. He explained his fees up front and asked for my approval before he did any work. I want to mention that he came to my home on very short notice, too. He did the work as described very proficiently. His hourly wage is pretty high, but he really seems to know what he is doing and cares about the finished product. He is also very polite and conscientious in cleaning up his work area when he is finished.
I had him come out again less than a week later, because the burglars came back again and this time, they destroyed all Ron's previous hard work and destroyed not only the utility room door, but also my front doors. I went to Home Depot and bought a new door for my utility room and a security door and at Ron's recommendation. Ron installed both doors beautifully. I am very happy with his work. He may be a bit slower than some handymen, but he is very conscientious and thorough. I just wish his fees weren't so much, but I have learned that more often than not, you get what you pay for. Cheaper isn't always better. He took longer than expected, so he didn't charge me for the full time he worked, which was great.
Ron will be coming back to install my new front doors when they come in from Home Depot, and I have every faith that he will do another great job......I can hope it wont' take as long, but as long as it's done right, that is the most important thing, right?
Ron knows what he is doing, and did good work. He was punctual, careful and tidy. He is also a nice guy.
The heat lamp job took longer than I expected (based on my own abilities and another bid), but this was compensated by Ron's realistic $40/ hour rate (as opposed to a mind-boggling $70/hour that another handyman wanted). The smaller drywall job seemed to go at a good pace, allowing for drying times.
If you need a reliable solo handyman with carpentry and electrical skills consider Ron. My drywall job was not very demanding, but I got the impression that he is quite competent in this field.
- Professional quality work - "good enough" would not be acceptable.
- Not the cheapest price, but a fair price.
- No clean-up left after he was done and gone.
- Same workman every time, No employees or subs except for special applications.
- Show up on time, or at least call and reschedule in the event he just could not make it.
He passed with flying colors in all areas.
