A-GREAT WHITE MOVING

Overall, it was less than satisfactory.  The owner, who is a pleasant fellow, grossly underestimated the volume of our stuff.  The van was too small, and consequently the actual move had to be done on two separate days (Wednesday and Friday).  To his credit the owner worked hard to finish up as soon as possible, but the company is small and his manpower seemed spread thin.  The packers came the day before the move (or rather the day before the first day of the move).  They work as independent contractors and are paid separately.  We also paid them for the boxes used.  There was a shortage of book cartons, and the packers placed lots of books in cartons that were too big for their weight.  The movers complained about that the next day.  When I mentioned that to the owner, he said those were all the book cartons he had.  The packers and moving crews generally worked hard.  The move was completed, and nothing was seriously damaged, so it was successful in that sense.  But it shouldn't have taken two days, and the owner should have had enough book cartons.  After all,we were paying for them.
