"We're very sorry to hear that [member name removed] is unhappy with our service. One of our plumbers installed a pressure regulating valve (PRV) at her house, on the main water line. This was a wise purchase on [member name removed]'s part, as the water coming into the house was significantly higher than the codes allow. Excessively high water pressure can be the cause of a number of plumbing problems, and installation of a pressure regulating valve is recommended to help prevent these problems. The PRV is installed at the start of the main water line, and it simply decreases and regulates the water pressure from that point forward throughout the home. Installation of a PRV would have nothing to do with the home's sprinkler system. In order to be absolutely certain, however, that nothing we'd done had caused the problem she was describing with the sprinklers, we sent another plumber out to check everything thoroughly. First, he checked to make sure no dirt or debris had gotten into the water lines during the installation of the PRV, which might have caused a problem with the sprinkler valve, although this would have been very unlikely as there is a backflow prevention device between the PRV and the sprinkler system which would prevent any dirt or debris from travelling through to the sprinklers. He confirmed that there was nothing in the lines. Next, he checked to make sure the PRV was working correctly and found that it was. It appears the celanoid on the sprinkler valve was bad, which is a fairly common occurrence, and the fact that this happened shortly after the installation of the PRV is unfortunate, but purely coincidence. Again, we're sorry [member name removed] is not a happy customer. If there were some way we could resolve this problem, we certainly would but this truly was a coincidence, and not a situation we have any control over."
