Response from Payson Pet Care Veterinary Clinic
"[Members Name], Thank you for your kind ratings on our price, responsiveness and professionalism. However some of the review is quite misleading, and it is only fair that we clarify and fill in the whole story as it actually occurred. As you remember, you first came to Payson Pet Care during an after hours emergency, when your prior veterinarian refused to see your pet, Panda. We were able to pull Panda through a terrible trauma and save her life. Then later, when an old injury from a surgery before we met her began acting up, we took some radiographs at your request. Panda did well and went home fully able to walk. We called you to check on her the next day as part of our normal follow up; and you reported that she was well. At that time she was still walking well. Some time later, you called for another appointment because Panda had begun losing her balance. You were told that sometimes older animals do have balance problems but as you know this new problem is unrelated to her prior treatment. We began treatment for the new balance problem and she had begun to respond. When I called you to check on Panda you had been seeing some improvement with the treatment for the new problem. You also admitted that this review was not entirely fair and promised to fix it or remove it. You have also returned to Payson Pet Care to get three (3) different prescriptions since publishing that you would not return. We at Payson Pet Care take our duties very seriously. We care deeply about the patients we see and above all never do harm. Hopefully this more complete account can clarify the facts to our friends who are Angie’s List members, and rely on these reviews to be truthful."

We have been with this provider for five years for our dog Abby. Last May, we had to have Abby put down. We trusted Payson Pet Care during her life and also with her death. They provide very caring, professional, excellent servie. Dr. Snyder was our veterinarian.

Response from Payson Pet Care Veterinary Clinic
"Thank you for the great review. We are happy we could help you! Since we are the only veterinary clinic within 100 miles open on Saturdays and the only area clinic that accepts emergencies, we do get booked up fairly quickly on Saturdays. However; we always make sure everyone is taken care of, no matter how late after hours we have to stay."

4/14/2008: dog was taken to vet because he had stopped eating and lost 13% of body weight, examined by Dr. Sandra Snyder who and quot;diagnosedand quot; his lack of eating because he needed teeth cleaned and stated their vet clinic was only one in Payson that had and quot;state-of-artand quot; x-ray equipment. I was concerned that her teeth cleaning diagnosis seemed like a sales pitch and she did not rule out other possible causes. I asked that be blood drawn to rule out other disease, which was done. Chg: $193.75

4/16/2008: blood results returned, Dr. Snyder said it was teeth problem, prescribed Clavamox (antibiotic) and Rimadyl (pain) and scheduled teeth cleaning. Estimated cost of teeth cleaning under $150. Chg: $46.96

4/23/2008: dropped dog off in AM for teeth cleaning; gave vet cell phone number and asked that I be called after x-rays done and let me know what they found. Received no phone call. Finally called clinic myself to discover they had already cleaned and removed 8 teeth. Asked to see x-rays to see why they removed 8 teeth... the x-rays were TOTALLY black... NO image on any of the x-rays. Chg: $360.41

5/8/2008: dog is still not eating, rechecked by Dr. Katie Smith in same clinic , prescribed Orbax (different antibiotic). Chg: $46.95

5/12/2008: requested dog's records from Payson Pet Care Veterinary Clinic, took dog to Dr. John Smith at Main Street Animal Clinic. Dr. Smith reviewed blood work results taken on 4/14/2008, said results clearly indicate dog had Valley Fever, took more blood to check Valley Fever titer levels.

5/16/08: Dr. Smith/Main Street Animal Clinic confirmed Valley Fever levels had increased, prescribed Fluconazole

My experience with Dr. Sandra Snyder/Payson Pet Veterinary Clinic was extremely bad. She failed to to report the blood test indicated the dog had Valley Fever, nor did she treat VF. She prescribed the wrong medications, stated the dog's failure to eat was because he needed his teeth cleaned and the blank x-rays did not indicate the extractions were warranted. Her treatment of my dog wasted almost a month, her failure to treat the Valley Fever caused him to lose more weight (22% of his body weight by the time I switched vets and began treatment for VF) and cost great concern for my dog and $651.11. I would warn anyone from taking their beloved pets to this and quot;vetand quot;.
Response from Payson Pet Care Veterinary Clinic
"I am happy we could help your pet recover from his painful dental condition. Eight abscessed teeth are enough to stop anyone from eating. Unfortunately that was only one of his issues. I am glad that you ultimately did follow our advice to get further treatment to so you could complete his recovery. Payson Pet Care is recognized for our ability to treat pets as conservatively or as aggressively as their pet parents are comfortable with. While some are prepared to have all testing and treatment done right away, we also understand some can only afford to take medical testing and treatment one step at a time. Of course, the pet’s comfort is priority. Dental disease is very painful, as anyone who has ever had a toothache can relate to. Thank you for expressing your concerns, however; I do wish you had spoken to us when you didn’t understand. I could have addressed your concerns long ago. Things such as X-ray films can be difficult to interpret when you are not used to seeing them, or don’t have them properly illuminated. We are also pleased that our local colleagues have upgraded their dental equipment since you were here. We enjoy the opportunity sit down and explain procedures and protocols. We listen to your concerns and want you to understand, feel comfortable with the treatment plan, and ultimately help your pet."
