Spectrum Flooring does not have an actual showroom, but I told Scott what was wanted, and the Mohawk rep provided the samples of this newest product just on the market! I had gotten other prices before contacting him for a bid. My son also used his services for their new carpeting and installation and was very pleased with price and installation. Before the project began, I was told that the prep was very important and that any problems with the concrete slab would not be evident until all the old carpet and baseboard was removed. It was no surprise then when I had an empty area to view. Large cracks in the concrete had to be filled, old tile under a laminate floor in one bathroom had to be torn out completely. Ben actually used a level on the entire floor to see the uneven areas in need of leveling prior to installation. He pointed out each area he had to fill for me to see what he was doing. The floor was sanded in prep for the hardwood, and cleaned. He also does not like to use the wood molding between the ceramic and hardwood which is costly and leaves a hump in the surface, so my joining areas have matching grout like my tile and it is a very nice transition look. ( Was quoted $85 for each 7 ft piece of molding by ANOTHER installer for this transition). Ben had help from his 2 man crew, but mainly from David who is a very hard working man. I was amazed at how respectful they were of our home with their equipment, using cardboard to protect my surfaces, and cleaning up the work area before leaving each day. Bostick's Best glue was used and it is the only glue used for hardwood installation. Ben shared with me that he had worked as an installer for other big outfits, but was expected to install quickly and the prep was not important, only the amount of wood installed. He said he left because that was not acceptable to his standard of installation. Ben also pointed out defects in my full length mirrors when he had to move them, letting me know the knicks were already there before he safely set them on old pieces of carpet for me. Of all 25 boxes, we only had 1 defect area we had missed until days after the installation was completed and paid in full for. You could only see it at a certain time of day when the light was just right. Thhe lighting in that back bedroom is poor and even with the shade open, limited. It was a splinter area, but wood filler and stain did a great fix. Ben repaired it to my satisfaction since I did not want it replaced unless needed, but it should not. You don't even notice it now. I hired Ben to install the same baseboard in the rest of the house and it looks great. He even suggested and added a nice molding to 2 closet areas that needed a nice final touch. I never thought of it myself. You will be happy too!
Description of Work: Scott at SPECTRUM FLOORING gave me the best price & service I could find for the newest MOHAWK 5" ARMORMAX Hickory Sable Hardwood and an awesome installer named Ben. Price included cost of 25 boxes of hardwood ( 700+ sq.ft), installation of my prepainted 5" baseboard . My floor required $600 additional floor prep which was included in total price.
