We had just purchased a house with a two year old A//C unit. Since we weren't sure how well the unit was maintained we purchased one of Day Advanced Air Conditioning's $49.99 central A/C inspection and tune-up specials. Day Advanced Air Conditioning showed up on time and did what we thought they were supposed to do. We thought it interesting that they showed up with three guys. While they were here they did mention that they thought we didn't have enough air return but didn't say much else because they were going to email us the results of their inspection. It's five months later and we still haven't received an email from them.
About three months after their inspection we found a huge water puddle next to our air handler. The puddle was so big it flooded onto our daughter's new bedroom carpet. We called our home warranty company and they sent out their AC company to fix our AC. The other AC company said the condensation drain line was clogged and needed to be cleaned. They also said that whoever installed our AC and air handler did the worse job they had ever seen. The other AC company said that there was not a filter base so there was no way to change our air filter, they said that even if there was a filter base we still wouldn't be able to change our filter because the condensation line was in front of where the filter base should go, and our AC unit was 1 ton too small for our house (among many other things).
We decided to get a second opinion so we decided to have another AC company check out our AC unit/air handler. The company who gave us a second opinion said the same exact thing as the company that fixed our leak.
Frustrated that we can't get the mildew smell out of our daughter's new carpet I decided to call Day Advanced Air Conditioning to see why they didn't clean the condensate line when they were here or notice all of the issues I had with my AC unit. The guy on the phone told me that the service I paid for only checks to see if my AC unit runs to the manufacture's specifications.
I would NEVER use Day Advanced Air Conditioning!!! I expected them to check my air filter, clean my condensate line, you know, tune-up type of stuff. Apparently that's not what a tune-up is to them. Since they sent three guys to do an inspection and tune-up I'm guessing they had hoped to do more to my AC unit. Not sure why they couldn't have cleaned out the condensate line.

This is a hard one to call and I do NOT like writing even slightly negative reviews, but. . . When I called to schedule, they were scheduling two weeks out, which might be understandable as it's starting to warm up and the demand is probably pretty high, but I was surprised at the delay. That said, their two techs arrived a little late (20 minutes), but they were quick to introduce themselves and went right to work.
It took them about an hour and 15 minutes to service/inspect our two units, but the odd thing was that when they were finished they went to their truck and stayed there for at least 45 additional minutes doing something (?). They finally came to the door and explained that their boss would call me with the report (their English was not very good and the lead guy was obviously struggling with explaining just that). I noticed on the invoice that they were recommending something be done with the motors, and capacitors, but it was hard to discern much from their cryptic notes. The bottom line is they weren't able to explain anything in person, so at this point I'm pretty much in the dark. Steve Day did call me several hours later, but his telephone report was filled with meaningless (to me) technical info, and not much substance. He also seemed pretty unsure of what his techs found, so that makes two of us. He told me they were going to be at the big home and garden show this weekend, but he would email me a report with pricing info regarding the work they are recommending when he got around to it (my words, not his). That didn't make me feel very important as a customer, but what the heck. Several months later and I've not received a report, a phone call, or the time of day! So, at this point I have no idea what they did, what they found, or what they recommend -- NO REPORT!
I've had these service/inspections done on the two units twice a year for the past 12 years by various HVAC companies and this is the first time we've been left in the dark concerning what was done and what they found. They have stirling reviews on Angie's List, but mine isn't one of them! After inspecting the outside units when they left I found several sheet metal screws missing (empty holes), so I'm suspect of the quality of whatever work they did.

Excellent!
While I had my unit installed in January of 2013, I waited until now (June 2014) to write this review because I wanted to see the results. I got the data from SRP. My total kW-H usage for July and August dropped 35% for 2013 compared to 2012! - even though the average daily temperatures for those months were essentially the same for both years. When you look at months like March, April, October and November, the total usage is about the same - but we don't run the AC in those months. There was also a ~20% reduction in Dec 2013 and Jan 2014 when the heater kicks on. I have the data charted in Excel, and I'd be happy to share.
This stuff is not cheap. I did get 3 bids, and Day was not the lowest. I rejected one bid out of hand because the guy wanted to sell me the cheapest stuff available. There was another reasonable bid that was a bit lower Day, but using 2nd tier components. I went with Day because the small difference in cost didn't justify the difference in component quality. Plus, he just impressed me with his knowledge of thermal dynamics, etc. (I am an engineer, so I know some of that stuff.)
If you want the cheapest bid with the cheapest components, look somewhere else. If you want a quality job with 1st rate components and attention to details - I don't think you can do better than Day. They have made AC into a science - really, these guys do their research!
