The quoting process was easy. Marla was responsive and showed up when promised. She is extremely knowledgeable about bathroom construction and is very adept at locating places where trouble could be lurking. She also has a keen design style and will ask probing questions so that you can determine the best design style to fit your taste and decor.
The crew showed up exactly as scheduled and prepared to work. Demo was fast and as clean as could possibly be expected (there's always lots of dust and dirt during a demo but the crew kept it to a controllable minimum).
Each day the crew showed up exactly when they said they would and were ready to get right to work. The project flowed very well (previously this vendor struggled a little bit with staying on schedule but there were no signs of that this time).
The project was completed on-time, on-budget and with very high quality. My dingy, dark shower area is now an ultra-modern, high-end resort looking bath, with tub, shower and toilet conveniently located.
Despite our best efforts, the project did experience some hiccups during execution:
- - Although we paid a deposit and signed to contract in June with a start date in August, the actual start date was pushed out twice and didn't start until two full weeks later than we had planned.
- - There appeared to be no overall project manager for the project. It was never clear who was coming to do what work and when. as a result, a 5 day project took more than 15 days to complete - most of this time the bathroom was completely unusable.
- - The tub was not measured correctly, resulting in the tub being more than an inch set in from the previous shower basin. This left an un-tiled gap between the tile floor and the new tub
- - The medicine cabinet was not installed with consideration to the existing lighting fixture - this meant one couldn't open the new medicine cabinet door without hitting the light fixture. Care should have been taken to better measure the clearance of these two items before installation and moving of electrical outlets.
- Although our project encountered some problems, it's very important to note that all problems were addressed in a professional and satisfactory manner. In fact, to repair the issue with the incorrectly measured tub, the company replaced the bathroom floor at their cost. All of the craftsmen were very, very professional. Great care was taken to keep the work area clean and clear of debris. The tile work, drywall work and cabinet work was very high quality (considering the reasonable prices). We were very impressed with the people who did the work.
- The number one issue for this project was the overall coordination of all the work tasks. The person assigned to be the "project manager" was rarely around when workers arrived or to supervise work being completed. Workers showed up unexpectedly, not clear on what the needed to do and then we'd go a few days with no workers on site at all. It was impossible to plan around the work being done. Had this been a bathroom we used regularly, this would have been a huge issue for us - especially since it was out of commission for 15 days.
