We had a service warranty on our Trane A/C thru Samons Air Cond. We paid $45 (equal to 1 service call) for them to chec our unit pre-season. In June the precheck was performed. We were told it was in great condition and should last for years. In fact, it was such a great unit that the owner had one himself. The tech told us there were only about 4 parts that wore out. Whenever Samons replaced this particular model the owner would keep the 4 parts for his own unit. In August our unit stopped working. We called for what should have been a free call as we had already paid for the pre-season check. No tech came to my house to diagnose the unit, but was told over the phone that 4 parts needing replacing. The replacement cost would be $3400, but replacing only those parts would result in the unit no longer being unde warranty. What we needed to do to keep our unit under warranty was to entirely replace it at a cost of over $8000. Coincidently, the 4 parts that needed to be relaced were the same 4 parts the owner harvested from the same model. Trane is a proprietary system, so a consumer must go thru a Trane distributor to obtain parts. I contacted the owner of Samons in order to break down parts versus labor costs on the repair. I have an aquanitance who is a certified air conditioning and heating installer. The owner refused to brake down the differences of parts and labor, stating only the final total. After much research on different brands we discovered Trane is very over-rated and over-priced. My certifed aquaintance hooked me up with a Standard brand A/C heating unit for $3000 installed. This was his standard price to everyone. The Standard unit is quieter, cheaper to install, and my electric bills during air conditioning season are down by 27%. After venting my frustrating story to local friends and neighbors I discovered this was not an isloated incident. This just seems to be their way of doing business. They no longer have mine.

Samons Air Conditioning Inc went beyond there bid price to repair the duct work done by a preveious contractor, and did not charge extra to fix the duct work. I would highly recomend them to any one that is looking for a heating and air conditioning contractor..
