 + 0 moreI called 2 weeks before to set up an appointment. On the day of the appointment they where a no show not even a phone call. the appointment was on OCTOBER 5th and as of today ( NOVEMBER 2nd ) still no call .

 + -1 moreThis project was a long time in gestation. We originally contacted Mark in November 2007 and at that time he gave us his estimate of $19,978. Then I became ill, and by the time I was fully operational again the hot weather had begun so we decided to put everything off until the fall. At that time we again solicited bids for the project from Mark and two other Angie's List contractors, and felt that Mark's bid was the most credible of the three (it was the same as it had been in 2007). By November we were in a position to ask Mark for three references, which he gave us right away and which checked out. We signed the contract November 17, Mark had the permit by Friday, Dec. 4, and started work the next week. Mark was present every day of construction. When the framers put the space for the heat-pump in the wrong place Mark was there within the hour to have them change it. When the paint for the interior walls didn't seem to my wife to satisfactorily match the paint on the walls of our living room, Mark was there to get the problem solved, as he was when there was a question about the color of the door. There were no delays in the project--they even worked in the rain one day-- which was finished Dec. 30. I paid for the project in installments of $4,000; a deposit for materials, at the completion of the concrete work, at the completion of framing, at the completion of drywall, and final check which Mark, per his original estimate, billed at $3,978, but for which I gave him the extra $22 dollars (big deal). The above may sound a little over-enthusiastic, but I really can't find anything bad to say aboout the guy. Of course, we have only been in the new room--which my wife intends to use as an in-home office for her job---for a couple weeks, but so far, so good. If anything goes wrong, we have a year's warranty from Mark, and I'm sure he'll be there to fix it.
Description of Work: We had an 8' X 14' roofed back porch which we wanted enclosed, with an outside door and security door in the western 8' wall, a 24" X 24" window beside the door, and two 5' X 2' windows in the 14' wall, about 6' from the floor; we also wanted a small heat-pump installed high in the eastern 8' wall. Mark Merritt first got us a permit from Phoenix, then he and his crew took out the existing concrete floor and poured a new concrete slab with footings. He then framed the three walls and ceiling according to the city code, installed our three windows (leaving a space for the installation of the heat-pump), sided the walls according to our HOA requirements, had the necessary electrical and phone outlets installed by a licensed electrician,removed the sliding glass doors which had been the original exit from the living room to the porch, installed the drywall on the walls and ceiling (leaving room for an existing ceiling fan), and painted the exterior--again, according to our HOA specifications--and the interior. I forgot to mention that Mark himself is a licensed general contractor, and that he used subcontractors to install the new concrete slab and footings and to frame the walls; also that he arranged for the necessary city inspections and secured a Certificate of Acceptance from the city when the whole thing was completed; and finally, that he had insulated the walls.

 + -1 moreMark came by every day and checked on his crew. The fireplace supplier was a problem, but Mark worked to make everything right. He even went about what we asked for.
Description of Work: Cut in patio door, removed window and door, enlarged laundry, installed gas fireplace, re-tiled entry and laundry, installed new guest closet, painted, and repaired stucco.
