We knew the estimate was incomplete because he said he didn't know how much pvc pipe he might have to replace..(made sense to us so we figured a few hundred dollars at the most) initial estimate on yard work and irrigation was about $2,200 ... then when he finished that part he charged us $4,000 ....wow ...(who could have imagined) then after feeling the sting of that...a few days later we decided to call the gravel company to see how much our gravel was...$1,130 including delivery and all...oh ok ...we were then charged $4,000.....his workers spent about five hours speading that around....my husband and I are almost 70 years old .... we were shocked. Scott was leaving for VaCa (lol) and told us to call him in a month he would come back and reset our irrigation timer. In the mean time I felt sickened by the entire ordeal I didn't know what to do... we told our adult children what had happened, they wanted us to call three on your side....they were very upset . When he came back I confronted him about his doubling of the initial landscape and irrigation work ...he had all the right answers turning it back to us...making us feel like stupid fools...then I confronted him about the gravel charge ....we were quoted $4,000 for the gravel... but....when I let him know we called the gravel company and found out the actual cost of the gravel (1,130) he basically laughed and said he can charge whatever he wants to..."no law against that" by the way the gravel company called the labor for spreading ...outrageous ...should be more like the price of gravel...approximate same price for spreading....a kinda of formula they use....This contractor advertises in our local retirement community paper and boasts of his honesty to seniors....a day and one half of work and $8,000....later....you be the judge...I say Seniors beware check prices...get other bids...no open ended bids..also check review boards....trust no one ...to prove to myself that we were taken advantage of ...I hired an independent contractor ($100) to pour over our estimate and the work that was done and he could hardly believe it....he said these people not only hurt consumers but they hurt reputable contractors ....we had checked BBB and the Registrar of Contractors and there was nothing there to indicate any problems...however reviews of people who he has done work for ...(came to late for us) speaks loud and clear
