I adopted a kitten on 5/18/13 and because she wasn't big enough to spay, I was told I could bring her back when she was ready and the vet would spay her. I was unable to take her on this day and was told I could pick her up on 5/24/13, take her home and bring her back to be spayed. The office personnel confirmed with the Dr. on staff that day and was told it was ok that I do this. I was told it was because I am a responsible pet owner and they knew I would return to have her spayed. Well...imagine my surprise when I stop in on the 24th to pick her up. Now I'm told I can't take her because she has to be spayed first. I explained the conversation of the previous week and to make things worse, none of the staff that was witness to what happened the week before was there. After a period of disputing, I angrily walked out. If I didn't know what a great home this new kitten would have and that she wouldn't be euthanized because she wasn't adopted, I'd have demanded my money back and cancelled the adoption.
I waited for several weeks and when I didn't hear anything, I called the vet's office on 06/26/13 and was told I could pick the kitten up the next day (06/27/13) because she would be spayed that morning. Well...late Thursday afternoon (06/27/13) before leaving work, I called to make sure the kitten would be ready and I would be picking her up. What a shocker!! I'm told the kitten didn't get spayed because someone accidently fed her in the morning. Now, I understand you can't perform surgery when the patient has eaten, but what really got my dander up...was that NO one bothered to call me and tell me. Thank goodness I called first. I'd had been LIVID had I stopped after work only to find out I couldn't bring her home again!!! I was told she would be spayed on 06/28/13 and I could pick her up late in the afternoon. I asked if I could speak to a supervisor or manager or someone in charge (it was apparent to me, the person I spoke to (through no fault of her own), knew little if not anything, as she kept putting me on hold to get answers for my questions. She returned to the phone and told me I could call the owner's wife (Dr. Dean's wife) and gave me her number.
Well, I called Dr. Dean's wife (whose name escapes me now).I can't even begin to tell you how rude, unprofessional and uncaring she was. Every single complaint I had, she responded with the 'blame game'. She blamed everything on the prior manager (they had to terminate her). And every time, I reminded her it was still her business and ultimately, the owner is responsible for the actions, behavior and knowledge (or lack of) of their staff. At no point did she apologize for the confusion, the misinformation, the inconvenience I experienced, nor did she attempt to rectify any issue. In fact, at one point, she actually told me I could go to another vet if I wasn't satisfied with them. She took no ownership whatsoever for this fiasco. Now I know why this office is a total mass of confusion.
On a happier note, I successfully got my kitten on 06/28/13. She is well, happy, playful, loving and quite mischievous. Oh....and on a side note, apparently this vet doesn't need the business....because after the way his wife behaved, I got my records for my two dogs, two cats and new kitten and introduced them to their new vet!!!
All veterinarians at North Valley are compassionate and obviously love animals. Exams are gentle and every possible action is taken to calm animals.
