Hometown True Value Hardware

My husband and our 2 1/2 year old son went in to return a purchase.  They were followed by Michelle up and down every aisle.  When my son picked up an oil can, she took it out of his hand and said it's not for playing with.  Perhaps not (though he was doing no harm), but to take something out of his hand while his father was right there is unacceptable.  My son was frightened and came home telling me about "that lady." 
I called asking to speak with the MOD.  I was handed over to Michelle.  I explained the situation and, before I went forward, asked if she was the one who had the interaction.  She said, "I don't have to tell you that."  When I asked again, she said, "What's your point?"  It was then that I asked for the name of the person above her, so I could call later.  She said, "there's nobody above me."  I asked if she was the owner.  She said, "I don't have to tell you that."  I asked if she was the manager on duty.  She said, "I don't have a title like that."   She further refused to give me her title or the information for anyone above her, repeatedly saying, "I don't have to tell you anything."  Obviously, that wasn't going anywhere.
She said, "we follow everyone who comes in the store, because we can't profile and thieves come in all shapes and sizes."  A) They don't follow "everyone" as I was just there the day before and was not followed.  B) Toddlers don't generally scream "shoplifter."  C) Following to the point of scaring the little boy is extreme to say the least.
Eventually, she hung up on me when I questioned some inconsistencies in her story. 
I prefer to patronize small business, but she's ensured we give our business to Lowe's from now on.  Never again.
