I called Hayward Tree and requested an estimate. I believe it was Amanda that came out to look at the tree and gave me the quote. I immediately indicated I would like to have them do the job and she told me someone would call the next day to put me on the schedule. I received that call the next day & was put on the schedule within a few days. On the day of the service, one of the workers called to let me know he was about 10 minutes away... I did appreciate that!
Three workers then arrived, surveyed what needed to be done and got right to work. I was impressed with their teamwork and, especially, the clean-up process. I would not hesitate to hire them again or to refer them. I was very satisfied with their work!
Prompt reply to phone call for requested estimate. Arrived on time well equipped for the job. Work was completed as expected except for the cleanup process. A little sloppy I thought, but then, removing 27 year old ficus trees makes a huge mess. In spite of that I would hire this company again for tree removal.
They then got the other 5 stumps ground out from other parts of our yard, while that was going on 2 other workers started on our citrus trees and getting them cleaned up. We bought a foreclosed home and the trees had not been taken care of in a long time. They look much better now.
If I need any more trees trimmed or removed I would call them to come and take care of it. The were polite and cleaned up after them selves and made sure I was happy before they left. Thank you for a doing a great job.
"Hello (member name removed), I am the estimator that came out to your property and spoke with your son about trimming the three mesquite trees and the removal of the dead tree and debris. During our conversation I offered to remove the dead tree and debris at no additional cost, which is written on the estimate. I agreed to meet in the middle because I had given the best deal that I could on the spot which included removal of a dead tree and debris at no charge, which I would value at $150. Unfortunately at that time I could not afford to reduce the price and additional $120 so I agreed to meet in the middle at $60 which is greater than a 10% discount if all discount are added. I am sorry you feel that there is a lack of integrity within our company, I felt I was offering a good price and was fair from the start. I wish that you had contacted me yourself, however all communication was through myself and your son. In my opinion I would say there was some miscommunication between my conversation with your son and your conversation with your son."
To Haywards credit, we communicated several times over email, and came to the conclusion to agree to disagree. I would use them again for tree removal, but not for arborist work.
"Hello [member name removed], In response to your review regarding the work done at your property in March of 2013. You had requested an estimate to remove a ? tree in your back yard that has walls around it. When our certified arborist was on-site and gave an estimate for removal, he also recommended either trimming or removing the Mesquite tree in your front yard (which is the tree we are now discussing). Upon his assessment he noted that the tree had not been property pruned, which is why he offered the two options 1. Crown thin, reduce deadwood and end weight for $180 2. Remove and stump grind for $500. Your response by email: Your company did a tree-thinning on our Mesquite tree earlier this year. At first, the thinning looked ok, but when I actually walked over and looked up inside the tree, it looks like the interior branches of the tree are nearly braided together! I seriously doubt this is the sort of work your company owner would be proud of. I would like the owner to take a look at his workers labor, as I don't think he knows what is happening after the fact. You are a recognized member of Angie's List, and I would like to put in a positive remark for you, but it depends on your response to this problem. Our Response by email: [member name removed], I have reviewed your feedback and looked at the picture you sent. As you are aware, we trimmed this tree 5 months ago. The interior limbs being "braided" as you describe is definitely not good structure. However, this is a result of years of not having the tree pruned properly. You can see were the tree was attempted to be "shaped" and elevated in the past, which led to the zig-zag type growth of the limbs. These issues are typically corrected before the limbs are allowed to fuse together. In addition, standard practice of arboriculture only allows for a certain percentage of a trees foliage to be removed at one time. I can see multiple cuts in the image where some crossing limbs or stacked limbs were removed. Per your admission, the tree looked ok to you when it was initially thinned. Cuts that were made throughout the canopy are visible in the picture that you sent, despite the fact that the tree has gone through an entire growing season since the work was performed. I did the estimate at this property and if I remember correctly, the tree is right by the front door, not necessarily out of site to where unsatisfactory work can go unnoticed for a period of 5 months. In fact, if I remember correctly, I was called out to look at another tree to be removed and suggested that the Mesquite in the front yard be trimmed, because it looked like it had never been done properly. I added this onto the work order as an optional service. The crossed limbs can be further corrected with future pruning, but cannot be totally eliminated at this point due to the structure of the tree. Either way, this would not be something that we would do at no charge. If I understand your email correctly, a positive review was implied if we were to re-trim this tree at no charge. I am comfortable in saying that the work was done to your satisfaction at the time of service. Qualified tree pruners completed the trimming as well as a removal at your house and this time I am going to stand by their work. If you would like for us to continue pruning the tree and help resolve more of the structural issues moving forward, I would be happy to do so."
Anyhow, a 4 man team arrived on time and they were very kind and respectful. I was concerned how they could possibly remove the huge limb over the house without hitting it, but he smiled and said I didn't even need to move my car. They did a great job, removed all the debris, (a lot of it) and even ground out the stump. I wrote this review because I want to personally recommend this service to everyone who needs it..
