From the start, Letterman started clearing the land and he was told to stay away from the big Oak trees. None of the clearing should have been in that area so they should have been clear. But it did not end up that way and we lost two of the eight big Oaks, they weren't destroyed by the fire. I had printed and clear instructions on what I wanted for the road. He told me he did not need the instructions but I left them with him anyway. I kept checking back with him on the status and not much was changing. He did not put drain gutters in. He had to put a culvert in to replace an old one. I have learned from another road company man that he used the wrong culvert. The old culvert, he was supposed to dispose of and all he did was push in into the brush. I was out there the days they were dumping the gravel and there was no gravel in what ever he was dumping on my road. It was very soft. I expected him to water and press it. When I asked him about it, he said he did not have a water truck and would wait for it to rain. WHAT! At any time, he never told me he did not have the tools to do the job. All he had was a bulldozer. He could have rented a water truck to moisten the dirt and have rented a road press to pack it down but he did nothing like that. He did not even leave it with a crown so when it did rain, it could have drained off. Instead, when the rain finally came, it turned to mud and became impossible to drive down. I heard of several vehicles getting stuck where they never did before. He did not install the road correctly, he did not clear the land without burning trees told to becareful of, he removed 1000 feet of iron fence line and it disappeared. He was not at the sight when he was supposed to be. Not a trusty worthy person. I would NEVER recommend him for a job, any job.
