BELK FENCE

We agreed on a price and he asked for half of the money down for materials. After I paid him the deposit, he showed up for half a day to remove some shrubs, but since then he's never shown back up to start construction or returned any of my calls.

This man took my money up-front.  (All fence companies here ask for one-half up front.)  He then tore down my old fence, piled it in front of my house on the curb, put in the posts, and then left.  After repeated calls to him, he explained to me that he had used the money that I paid him to take care of some other matters he was involved in and that he did not have the money required to purchase the remainder of the materials that would be needed to complete my fence.  He said that he needed $600.00 to purchase these and that the supplier would no longer give him credit.  I offered to let him do yard work and other things I needed done around my house in order to earn the $600.00, and he said he was willing to do that.  He would promise to come and then have an excuse as to why he couldn't make it.  (His truck was needing a transmission and he couldn't find a truck to borrow.  The ride that he had arranged never showed up. The van that he tried to use had an electrical problem, etc.)  After three weeks of this, I finally had to call another fence company and will have to pay them to do what I have already paid for!  I am going to be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office for Consumer Protection.
