Asher Appliance

Rick Averett, the apparent owner of Asher Appliance Repair, responded to a request of mine from Angie's List to provide a same-day service call for a refrigerator/freezer repair. He identified the problem as a faulty relay and said he'd order the part and come back the next day to replace it. I paid a deposit for the part and the service fee. He arrived back the next day as planned, replaced the relay, and assured me the fridge was fixed. The "motor" seemed to be running fine so I paid the remainder of the balance (he asked the remaining be paid in cash, which I thought was strange). After 24 hours, the unit had yet to cool despite running constantly. I called him back and asked him to return and he refused. He said he had service calls all day but would call me back, though he never did. I called again and he was even more rude, claiming he was too busy to return. I pressed him and he agreed to come back the next evening at 6:30pm. At this point, it had been eight days since he was last here--eight days that I had no working refrigerator/freezer! He did not show back up at 6:30pm as agreed. I am out approx. $200 for a unit that is still not working. I called another company (had to pay another service fee) only to be told the compressor was now out. When the new gentleman took the cover off the back of the appliance, one wire fell to the floor (unconnected to anything) and another wire had been left live (nearly touching the metal frame) by Mr. Averett. After inspecting the relay replaced by Asher Appliance, I was told it's very likely this "fix" is what caused my compressor to stop working. I was told it would cost $1200 to repair the refrigerator, likely due to the work Mr. Averett performed. He essentially scammed me out of money and made my situation worse.
