HOW DID IT GO? TERRIBLE,HORRIBLE A DISASTER! ...As I said NEVER LET THESE PEOPLE NEAR YOUR HOUSE! In the long run I remembered the company that originally installed it,Capital Heat and Air. They too were shocked at what they saw and could not understand why A&A took the entire unit apart then just left it there open to the elements and to animals! They were able to put it back together ,but they had to make new "transition units" AGAIN and some of the "duct work" inside had to be replaced. They told me that a transformer only cost $150.00..I couldn't belive my ears. I told them what A&A had quoted me. Capital het and Air also confirmed everything my friend told me about the unit A&A wanted to replace mine with, that is was not good and was considered second rate in the heating and air business and that Carrier's,like mine are very good, reliable, top of the line units. It looked as if the transformer had been struck by lightning. I remember the day before there was this very short, intense storm that only lasted less than 20 minutes. I remember lighting and hearing it hit very close to the house. And the next morning as the day began to heat up I realized that my unit was not working because the house felt very warm. When I checked the thermostat it read 81 degrees, yet I had it set at 72 degrees. As I stated before DO NOT LET A&A NEAR ANYTHING TO DO WITH HEAT AND AIR or anything else for that matter unless you like being ripped off! They never came back to do the work becuse I didn't trust them to do it right. I was concerned that they would do more damage just to "get back" at me! It was so clear when I thought about it that the reason they took the whole unit apart and destroyed the transition units was so that I would be OLBIGATED TO THEM TO INSTALL THE NEW UNIT. When I told them to hit the road, they actually tried to tell me that I OWED THEM MONEY because I had an agreement with them. I signed nothing with them! I knew that they were just blowing smoke up my you know what, then they told me that they had me on "TAPE" agreeing to let them do the work! It's illegal to record someone without thier knowlege! When I asked them to hear the so called tape they hung up! I will say it again,NEVER EVER LET THESE YAHOO'S NEAR YOUR HOUSE!
Description of Work: My airconditioning unit went out. It is a "Package Unit",meaning that it is all on the outside of the house.I couldn't remember who had installed it or when that was.I just called one of the first names I found in the yellow pages which was A&A,BIG MISTAKE! They came, took a panel off,it was very clear that the transformer had burned out. I could smell it and it was chard. Then they asked me how old the unit was,I couldn't remember, got it confused with the previous unit so I told them that I thought it was at least 10-15 years old. Then they tried to tell me that my unit a Carrier was "No Good" and they had a unit a Goodman that was much better! I told them that I had never heard of a Goodman. They assurd me it was a great unit, better than what I had. They told me that they could replace the transformer but that it would be "expensive" and that if the unit was 10-15 years old I was better of going with a whole new unit. So I reluctanly agreed, verbally. They told me that they needed to take some measurments,(just take some measurements),nothing else! I was skeptical about the whole thing and so I called a contractor friend of mine and told them what they had said about my unit being "no good"! And then I told him the type of unit they were going to replace it with and my friend said "That is the bottom of the line Mary Ann,do not let these people do anything,I will send my guy over to take a look." So when the A&A guys came to the door to tell me that they had taken all the measurements I told them that I was going to get a "second opinion". That is when the guy told me "Lady we've already disconnected it!" I said "I thought you were just taking measurements,I never authorized you to disconnect anything" He responded "Well in order to take measurements,we had to take it apart"..and they left. When I went outside. I could not belive what I saw,I was in SHOCK! The unit was at least 5 feet away from the house, wide open, which meant that any animal could crawl into the duct work, in fact one of my cats was already in there! And it was expsed to all the elements! I called them back and told them to reconnect it. They said they would for $900.00 but that didn't include the transformer, which they had quoted me a price of over $1200.00! When my friend's guy came over he was in shock at what they saw as well and could not understand WHY ON EARTH A&A took the whole unit apart. And they didn't just take it apart, they destroyed the "transition units" that came from the package unit to the house where the ducts begin! The metal was all bent up and twisted. They also disconnected the theromostat, the gas line and the electicity that went to the unit! DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR HOME! THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING! I found out later that the date that the unit was made is on the side of the unit, near the serial number. My unit was built in November of 2006 and installed in October of 2007! Why didn't they know this? They are on all units. And again why take the whole unit apart, destroy the transtion units? I think that they saw me as a woman who they figured they could CON into buying a new unit! AND A CARRIER IS A WONDERFUL PRODUCT!..That is what made me suspicious in the first place which is why I call my friend.
