Did a great job! However I paid him before the work was completed. When I expected the finished job there was a problem area that needed to be fixed. I called and he said he would look at it but he was already on another job. The owner did not inspect the work of his contractor to make sure it was finished correctly. The next day we had a bigger hole and called again. The 3rd day I called the owner and he said the man would come repair it but by now we had a very large hole and squirrels back in the attic. He that the repair man said that wood was rotted and needed replacing. He was supposed to have repaired all rotted wood in the original job. If he need to do more work, he should have given us a new bid and finished the job not left it unfinished. He should never have moved on to the next job until ours was completed and done correctly.

He was very friendly and worked exactly as planned, like he estimated.

Mr. Ahring was professional and personal, informing me how some minor things can be done by myself if I prefer, but offering to be my guide by phone if I need help or to do them himself.
He had subcontractors do the outside work. In repairing the dry rot around an outside door, a facing piece broke. They replaced it. Since it had to set (the primer paint), I told them I'd paint the color later.
The entire work, since it was at 2 different addresses, and the weather was fairly uncooperative, spanned a 3-4-day period. However, none of it was emergency, and the workers weren't disturbing.
Overall, it probably would not have been easy to quote, and I only got a verbal estimate. At the end, I was given the 5% Angie's List discount, and believe the price was fair for labor and materials, (excluding the paint, which I purchased ahead of time).
I'd give them an A and will use them in the future.

Steve was very professional and did a wonderful job. I would hire him again and would recommend him to friends.

The experience of having a stranger in your home is always nerve racking. Steve was very professional and showed up on time each day ready to work. He had the shower stripped, the floor removed and the shower pan completed in just a couple of days. Being that he obviously prides himself on his work, he was very thorough in his renovations. It only took another couple of days to do the shower pan, tiles in the shower and flooring. I would highly recomment him to anyone needing any kind of home improvements. Overall, I was extremely happy with the finished product.

How a craftsman approaches his job and the manner in which he communicates with his customers are as important as the quality of his actual wood-working, in my experience. I was pleased with all aspects of Steve's work, from our initial conversation through completion. He did a good job of sharing his thinking with me throughout the work and I felt like we had good communication throughout.
I would recommend A-1 Home Repair for a wide variety of work in the general handyman/carpenter area.

Mr. Ahring did an excellent quality work . He was responsive to all of our concerns and took his time to make sure we are more than satisfied with his work . He showed a professionalism and he charged a fair price for the job.

His name is Steve Ahring. He was excellent and really good. He is a friend of a friend and he does a lot of stuff. He mainly does carpentry but he did my roofing for me. When I had the roof put on the company did not do a very good job and we had a storm so I don't know if some of it was storm damage, but it turned out that I had termites so it was probably a combination of all those things. He did find the termites for me and I called the termite company and got them to take care of it and he redid the whole thing and did a really good job. He gave me a fair deal money wise. I would recommend him. He is good and knows what he is doing. He is a nice guy. I would definitely use him in the future.
