KSI CONSTRUCTION SERVICES

The true professionalism of a company is their willingness to stand behind their work. Seven years ago, I contracted with KSI for an enclosed screened porch. New to any type of construction I trusted KSI. The installation wasn't fast. I was assigned one worker but I liked him . KSI contracted with another company to install the vinyl siding since they were acting as general contractor. Fast forward seven years. I just discovered that the wood is rotten beneath the vinyl. I had Wilson Siding evaluate the damage. I was told that there were three problems. One, (1) no foam insulation or (2) flashing were used to protect the wood. (3) I have expolsed seams that allowed water to leak into the wood. When I contacted KSI today, (talked with Randy) he didn't seem too interested in coming out. I was told that the individual that was hired to installed the vinyl was no longer living. I persisted and sent KSI pictures of rotten wood, and seamed areas. Randy came out. And he advised me that area was exposed to elements and needed maintenance. That heat causes vinyl to expand. When I pointed out the flaw in design, I was advised that I should have caulked the areas. Who designes a vinyl addition that needs caulking? I have owned my home for 20 years. My front porch is exposed, It has vinyl and I have never had to caulk it. And if you design something that will need maintenance like caulking shouldn't you tell homeowner? So, I spent $20,000 for a covered screen porch, and now seven years later need $7,000 in repairs.

This company did not do all of the work that they promised. I caught the roofers numerous times installing shingles over bare wood which is absolutely the wrong way to install shingles on a wood roof. After I called the owner of KSI and told him that his workers weren't installing the shingles properly, he assured me that he would get it corrected. Even though the owner promised to not let this problem happen again, over the two day installation the workers continued to install the shingles over areas of my roof that had no felt paper to insulate the wood from the shingles. In all, I had to call KSI 4 times during the two day installation and ask them to make their roofers stop installing shingles over bare wood. Finally the owner got frustrated with my calls and told me that he couldn't afford to stand on my property all day and supervise his workers. I told him that I shouldn't have to be the one to do that either. KSI also installed 4 squares of 20 year shingles on my roof, with the 30 year shingles, which was also a breach of the contract. After contracting an attorney, KSI reduced the cost for installing the roof on my home by 10%. This was satisfactory to me, but all I ever wanted was the job to be done right the first time and as agreed to in the contract. Since the installation, I contacted KSI about a loose vent problem with my roof. The owner said that he was out of town right now, but he would contact me next week about sending someone out to check the problem. I have now waited for 6 weeks for that call and I suppose that I will once again have to get an attorney involved in order to get KSI to act on their supposed warranty for the work done on my roof.

Ksi was very good and they turned out well. They did not actually take down the tree for me, someone else did. They were very nice people and the guy who was here was a great guy. He was also very thorough.
