We really like the simple and thoughtful landscape design that Tyler helped us to go with. His initial drawings were helpful to us as we evaluated several other companies, but none that achieved the look and feel that we were wanting to achieve. Although not sure at first as the work began, we were patient and trusted Tyler's vision for what it could look like as a finished product. Throughout the building process, we were pleased with his willingness to listen to our input and take our suggestions on several changes that we thought were important. He was very flexible and cooperative in that regard.
There were a few minor bumps along the way and some miscommunications, but Tyler always responded professionally and listened to his customers point of view. He was always very fair and courteous in how those issues were resolved.
Without hesitation, we would recommend Tyler as someone who is a solid and trustworthy contractor. In fact, we plan to use him again in the future with other projects that we have on the drawing board.
[UPDATED 3/23/2015: The owner, Tyler Burns, was contacted several times in the last six months regarding equipment and shrub replacement needs. He stated that they could take a look at the things mentioned, but never contacted me again. With regard to the shrub(s), he had stated that I would not be able to exercise the one-year warranty for the dead or dying plant, that he would have to replace it, but again, he didn't show up. I see he is also operating as Pro Cut Lawncare. Because of the further lack of follow-through, I am downgrading my original rating of B to C and lowering several relevant categories accordingly. I regret this because I feel Tyler and the crew had good intentions and with a little more commitment on the backside, they'd be much better.] The crew were polite and generally did good work, but required some oversight to keep the tasks and materials on target with the plans. They were best in their tree work and fencing installation, but I had to secure the fence permits myself, as well as notify the utilities of the landscaping projects so they could mark the utility lines. I did not demand Ground Effects do these things, and perhaps they would have if I had insisted. The owner, Tyler Burns, was not usually on-site, but checked most days to confer with the crew, check on progress and speak with me about issues and questions, and he did go with me to explain to the city where the fence line would be placed. The construction of a landscaping bed was fair, but the edging used was too short in height and did not retain mulch. After trenching for the irrigation spray system, and some underground drain piping was installed, insufficient topsoil was added and subsequently sunk below the level of surrounding ground in many places, including a controller and valve box. One area of drain pipe was not set below the ground enough to keep it covered. A backflow device was installed and checked for performance, but not by a certified tester, which is required in this city in order to use the irrigation system. One or more of the popup spray heads was set too high to be able to mow over even with the mowing deck set up a bit. At one point I noticed that PVC cement not rated for the freezing temperatures during work was being used, and had to insist on appropriate cement be used (they complied).
I feel that the initial work performed was of average quality, perhaps even better in fencing, and everyone was friendly during the weeks they worked here. But the main reason I am not satisfied is that spring has arrived and the yard should be completed with no further amendments needed. I have tried to get this finalized this latest week, but had poor responses from the owner. I complained about that and he said he would get with me next week, but I am not available until that weekend, and in the meantime I need the lawn in good order already, not later. I don't think it should be my responsibility to chase after the completion of the work, which is to get the torn-up yard back to a normal condition and finish up the other loose ends. I will be glad to update this after that has been done.
Best of all the quoted price was the final price!
WE WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN!
