Great service as always - got us in 15 minutes after I called. We've been using Animal Medical Center (they changed their name) for 3 years since we moved to Tuscaloosa. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats so we are there fairly often and we would not go any place else. We've also used Club Mutts (doggy daycare) plus boarded our dogs there for vacations. They know us and they know our animals and our dogs LOVE going there (especially for day care). Our purebreed schnauzer has had some health issues and they've always bent over backwards to take care of her to include the vet calling us after hours and weekends just to check on her. Care can be expensive but this is inherent in owning a pet with health issues. The vets are awesome as well as the staff and again, our dogs love going there. The cats never but that is just being a cat!!!

Our silky terrier was groomed by John. He did an excellent job. He was also very courteous, and took great care of our dog while there. All of the staff was very professional and polite.

I bring both my cats to Canant after going to a much more expensive and less responsive practice nearby. They are incredibly economical; scheduling is easy; and vet techs are wonderful. I really appreciate their online presence as well -- you may make an appointment, download paperwork and pretty much streamline your experience via their Web site. The vets are knowledgeable, loving and informative. I really can't say enough positive things about the practice!

I mentioned the part about taking your papers to prove your pets has his/her shots and kennel cough booster.

I found the vet on the web and coordinated surgery for my cat to be done as soon as we arrived in the US after living in Europe for the past three years. Had good email interactions to include completing all forms so we were set for the day of surgery and our first visit to the vet. Everything went well and the vet called me to report on his status. They even called a few days later to ensure that he was doing well. Follow up was excellent and the vet spent a good amount of time with him and me answering questions. Overall a good experience.

The second time we took our cat for grooming the service did not go well! His cut was horrible...long tags and most parts not cut. We wanted the "Lion Cut" again...he had that cut here before so I know they knew the cut. His tail, legs, or belly were not cut or trimmed at all. The hair that had been trimmed on his back was still almost as long as the hair on his head. He had long tags hanging from his back side. He was pitiful looking!
Response from Canant Veterinary Clinic
"I am so sorry for your poor experience here at Canant Animal Hospital. Our clinic is now under new ownership. We have done several things to improve our client and patient's experience here. Including; remodleing in the office, exam rooms, and kennels. In addition to remodeling, we have two new groomers on staff that are amazing and are always happy to groom any pet. They work Monday thru Friday. We also offer tours, and will be more than happy to allow you to meet our groomers. We hope you reconsider using us for your pet's needs."

By 2008, even though I had used this veterinarian office several times for immunizations, spaying, etc., I had never once met any of the vets. Absolutely everything- from explaining the procedures to giving home care instructions- was done through whoever the receptionist was at the front desk that day. Nevertheless, I overlooked this shortcoming for a long time because of the convenient office location. Then my dog was diagnosed with heartworms. The treatment for this condition is difficult and required careful home care in addition to repeated visits to the vet. Throughout this process, the vet never talked to me personally and instead had his assistants at the front desk explain everything to me. I sometimes got conflicting information from the assistants, but again, I tolerated it because the conflicting information usually had to do with what time of day I could pick up my dog or other non-essential information like that. When my dog was finally wrapping up his heartworm treatments, the front desk assistant told me I needed to buy heartworm prevention medication from them. The price seemed high, so I said I preferred to get the prescription and shop around for a better deal. She refused to give me a written prescription and said that it was Canant's policy to require that all such medication be purchased only from them. I said I wanted to talk to the vet directly about this, but she said he was busy and couldn't see me. So I asked her to please have him call me, because I wanted to get my dog on his heartworm prevention medication as soon as possible, but I didn't want to be held hostage to their requirement that I buy it from them only. I didn't get a call from the vet, so I kept going by the office and calling and leaving messages for weeks. Finally, after weeks of my calls and personal appearances (and never during any of my visits during this time did I see one vet) one of the associate vets there gave in and wrote my dog a heartworm medicine prescription that I could take elsewhere, which I did, along with my future business. After I decided to take my pets to another vet in the future and about 2 months after all this drama about the heartworm medication started, Dr. Canant finally called and talked to me personally for the first time. He became angry when he found out that one of his associate vets had already written me a prescription for my dog and said that he wanted people to buy their pet medications directly from him because he "didn't trust" the quality of medications sold by anyone else. However, I had done some comparison shopping and found out that the price he was charging for medication was significantly higher than the cost of the same medication from other, reputable sellers. He also explained that he didn't come out to the front of the office to meet me or return my call sooner because he had more important things to do than talk to me about my concerns for the cost of the medication my dog needed. The last words I had with him was me saying I wanted to come by to pick up my pets' records so I could deliver them to their new vet, and to his credit, I had no trouble at the office when I went there for the last time and picked up my pets' files. I never did meet Dr. Canant face to face.
