Installing a geothermal or ground source heat pump is a time consuming and complex task, especially when retrofitted into an existing home like ours. It took many meetings and appointments, lots of questions had to be answered, and complex issues had to be dealt with. I originally became interested in Geothermal Solutions because they were the area dealer for the Waterfurnace brand of geothermal heat pumps. Geothermal Solutions is operated by Clay Doyle, a soil engineer. Clay was very patient as I worked through the issues of how and where to install the ground loop, how to route the necessary pipes into my home, how and where to install the heat pump unit itself, and the benefits of making the system zoned. No matter how many times we needed to meet, Clay responded in a timely manner and with complete information. Geothermal Solutions technicians were professional and respected our home, belongings, and privacy. They did their work well, cleaned up, and answered the many questions we had about the installation. The system has been installed and operating for over a month now and is working well. Our first utility bill included only about three weeks with the new system operating. It showed about 20% less usage than the previous year with our old air conditioner (this amounted to about $55 in savings). I will be interested in seeing how much the unit saves us in the future.
Description of Work: Installed a geothermal heating and air conditioning system (also known as a ground source heat pump). This required the drilling of three 240 foot vertical wells, running piping into those wells to create a vertical loop, installing ducting to create two zones for separately controlled heating and cooling, and installing the HVAC unit itself.
