"The entry door of our rented house can't be locked well. We wanted this problem to be fixed as soon as possible. Charles Wicker came to estimated it. He said they can fix this problem at the same day. Late on, long story to be short. One day's work became three days. The price was doubled also. After they finished the job, we paid them, and they gave us two years warranty. The door frame which they replaced came apart when the renter used it on the second day. We try to call and email them to come to fix the problem. No reply. Here is my suggestion to home owners: never ever try to repair the entry door especially when somebody rent and live inside. Just replace it with a new one by using Home Depot or a professional company."

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

The amount of time window lintels last is based on the environment they’re installed in and the material that’s installed. For example, a steel lintel installed in a temperate climate will always last longer than a wooden or brick lintel installed in an area with tons of rain, snow, and wind. No matter which material you choose or where you live, proper maintenance will ensure your lintels last as long as possible.

A double-hung window features two operable sashes, meaning it has an upper window part and a lower part that can both open to let in fresh air. A picture window has one fixed glass panel that doesn’t open. Double-hung windows cost about $200 to $2,500, while picture windows cost about $200 to $1,900.

Drafts, condensation between panes, difficulty operating, or visible frames or glass damage are signs of needed repairs.

Yes, you can create a solution of dish soap and hot water to create a cleaning solution. You’ll want to mix about one to two drops of dish soap for every 8 ounces of hot water. If you use too much soap, it’ll create too many suds and make it harder to effectively wash away.

Yes, it is generally better and more cost-effective to replace all your windows at once. Contractors often lower the per-window labor and material costs for larger projects, saving you money in the long run. Installers may also quote a flat rate for overhead, making multiple small jobs more expensive than one large one.

Replacing all windows simultaneously offers other advantages:

  • Aesthetics and Home Value: It creates a cohesive style and uniform energy efficiency, which is appealing to potential home buyers.

  • Efficiency: The entire replacement process, which can take several weeks, is completed in a single, more efficient project.

However, replacing all windows requires a significant upfront investment. While you can replace just a few windows, experts recommend replacing at least five to eight at a time to avoid high overhead costs. An exception is when a single window is damaged; in that case, it can be replaced on its own.
