$300
Robert B. McKenzie has stolen my antique mirror and lost original hardware on my antique dresser. His quality of work is poor and he was dishonest. He is running a shady business doing this same thing potentially for every client who contacts him. Mr. McKenzie gave me an estimate of $123 for all 3 pieces to be painted, and an estimated date of "1 week to one month, depending on the weather." I told him that time frame was acceptable, but i was using these as my actual dressers, so the sooner, the better. This agreement was made January 25th, 2010. This estimate was for repainting everything, excluding the price for some 'minor repairs and replacement pulls' which he said he would estimate at a later date "but it won't be much - I Promise!". He delivered the chest of drawers 3 WEEKS late, but in acceptable condition, and i paid him in full, $123. He delivered the second piece 3 MONTHS later than promised, and only because a friend intervened, and he gave me a second bill of $143.48. Although this isnt a lot, this second bill was supposedly for new pulls and repair work- which I will now have to do myself and find replacement pulls myself too. Professional? The last correspondence I got from him, was a text, saying "I'll get to it when I get to it or not at all what's your choice. " "Im at a party so quit Hassling me!" it was actually a stream of 4 text messages - after NOT HEARING FROM HIM FOR WEEKS. By 'hassling' he is referring to me trying to confirm delivery the next day, by leaving a nice voicemail, and 30 minutes later an email, and finally 30 mintues later, about 7:30 pm, a text asking what time he could be here Saturday and "Were we still on?" since he didnt give me a time. Needless to say, he did not show up and deliver the mirror as he said he would - and had no intention to. THe dresser that WAS finally returned (9 weeks late) is now worth less than when we started because he lost the original, unique hardware. The quality of the work is extremely poor, with only 3 OUT OF 4 e-bay replacement handles installed- and those are RUSTED and installed UPSIDE down (i have photos). The drawers he was supposed to fix cannot be opened due to lack of handles, and when they are pried by hand they still stick and close unevenly. AND there was a castor missing. I finally got that back, but it, along with the others are ruined from him dragging it on CONCRETE. Also, the paint finish is not smooth, as we agreed. Despite his multiple delays and terrible interpersonal skills, I have been extremely cordial and patient with this young man. He has taken advantage of my patience by not returning phone calls, not delivering promised work, and not finishing work on time, nor in good quality.
