The next few months after the repair, if the spot leaked again, it was minor. However, it leaked horribly - in the same area and around it - during a very heavy rain in late March. We called him and left a message - and called again - and again. We left probably 5 messages over two weeks and he never returned a call. Finally, we reached him. He'd been on vacation and 'forgot' to check messages, he said. He seemed peeved that we were calling about the same leak, but he said he'd come check it. Later that day he shows up and the first thing he says is, "That roof is shot. I told your husband it was shot when I was here last time." Not a great start - and six months before, he'd told us the roof was 'surprisingly good' and had several years left in it. A homeowner remembers something like that. He then said that he couldn't guarantee a patch job he'd done a year ago (it had been maybe six months). We know it's an old roof; we know it needs to be replaced in the next couple of years, but all we wanted right then was to know if that leaking spot could be further repaired. Honestly, if he had been nice about it - if he had gone up on the roof, slapped a little more tar around and THEN warned us that the new repair might not last, we'd probably have been happy - and calling him to quote on a new roof. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but it's like he was a completely different man from six months before. I cannot recommend his work.
Description of Work: We experienced some bad leaks last fall and called Mr. Gafford to inspect, advise, and hopefully repair our 16-year old roof (which he originally installed). He said it looked surprisingly good for its age, had several more good years in it. He spent about 15 minutes on the roof, slapped some tar in one spot, and said that should fix it - but to call if it did not, and he'd re-do the repair at no extra charge. Charge for this was $400. At that time, we thought it was fairly high $$ for such a quick repair, but he was very nice, and we trusted that he would stand by his guarantee. Ultimately, he did not.
