My very favorite sewing machine is my 1970 Singer 640 I purchased new. A few yeas ago I broke the cam and wasn't able to use the zigzag so I purchased another used 640. I also have a Viking. My Christmas gifts for 6 grandchildren this year are quilts. The second quilt almost done and the feed dog broke on one of the 640's. I pulled out the other 640 and after a a very short period of time the bobbin case quit turning. No problem, I got out the Viking. It would not pull the fabric through. Not a good day at this point! I live in a small town in NE Alabama with NO sewing machine repair shops listed. I found Rome Sewing Machine on line and gave them a call. The next morning I took all 3 machines to Rome GA to see my life saver - Jerry Wood! He serviced and adjusted one 640. When I took it in I had help the machine pull 6 layers of cotton fabric. When I left it was able to pull 6 layers of DENIM by it's self! I went back a few days later and picked up the other 2 machines - both sewing through 6 layers of denim and the cam fixed on the 640. SO HAPPY! These machines have not sewn this good in a very long time, even after being serviced. So glad I found Rome Sewing Machine and Jerry Wood!
