Harold Hill Handyman

Mr. Hill was very inaccurate and deceptive  with his bidding.  In looking over my job, we discussed at length what service he was to provide.  I have crank out windows, and the issue was to paint only the outside of the window or to paint the window inside after they were cranked out.  The job was to paint windows outside and the inside visible to the outside when opened. This was understood by both parties. This is a major difference in time and paint.  He gave, in my opinion, a very reasonable bid.  He was hired.  Once he started the job, I questioned him about how and when he would be painting the inside of the window.  He informed me that he DID NOT bid to paint that part of the window.  He claimed he had changed the bid and discussed with me prior to giving me his bid.  He came on a Friday afternoon to review the job I had  and I did not talk to him until Sunday when he gave the amount of his bid.   In no time did he offer to say he was making a change in the work his bid would include.  
During our initial discussion, he ask to wash the outside windows while he was painting them.  I said yes.  He refused to wash the windows and said he did not have that in his bid.  I was extremely upset and even had a witness to the discussion.  
Mr. Hill's listing says he will take checks.  He will not.  He wants cash only and says the bank charges something like 15-30 dollars to cash a check for him. We also agreed to me paying half labor and  all materials up front, and the remainder at the conclusion of the job.  He put pressure on us to pay him on a Friday with days of work still left to do.  

I'm not sure on the cost because I just gave him my card to go get supplies and it was less than $1000 for labor. I would say he did an excellent job. He was very upfront with us about potential problems and helped us work through and find the best solution for us so that we can not have to do anything too costly. We were looking to do the job within a budget. He did a good job with that. Just making sure that, for example, the popcorn ceiling in our bathroom. My friend had sprayed it with the shower head and some of the popcorn had come off. He gave us options on how we could fix that. If we did one options, what we would be looking at, like replacing that popcorn there and it wouldn't have a uniform look, it would look patched. He gave us other options, one would be the most costly and one wouldn't be very costly at all and he would help us decide what we could do within our budget.

He was professional and he was kind. He came when he said he would. He knew what he was doing. His rates were very reasonable.  Angie’s List really does have some good people.

Harold is a private guy and he is a handyman kind of a guy. He does really good work. I paid for the materials and it cost me about $250. He is on time and does excellent work. If he sees something wrong, he will let you know about it. If he is working on a project and he sees something that should have been different in the house, he will tell you about it. He will show you what could be done to correct it and he will correct it. He is really thorough and very meticulous. When it comes to the price, you can’t beat him. Sometimes he is a bit early than we think he would be. I am planning on using his services in the future too.
